Dear forum

Bloody i pod - after half an hour on the move, it simply freezes and won't do a thing.

I know how to reset it, but does anyone know why they freeze?

Ideally, I don't want to stop every half hour to reset.

Thx in advance.:thumb

What was the OAT?

Mine does the same, I am assuming it's vibration related as my iPhone is fine.

Thx Sam.....I had a feeling it may be something to do with that....any ideas on overcoming that problem? More padding perhaps?

Earlier iPods have a traditional hard drive which although robust to sudden movement get a bit pissed off with 30 minutes of high resonance vibration from being on a vibey twin. Put it on an inline 4 and it would probably be ok.

Later iPods (iPhones included) are fitted with solid state hard drives and therefore don't suffer the same problem :thumb

Aha.....thx for the info. 2 questions:-

> What's an inline 4?
> Later i pods - do you know from which year they would have a solid state hard drive?

Cheers :beerjug:

The only ones with solid state are the iPod touch, the iPod shuffle and the later iPod nanos :thumb

4 cylinder engine. K series bmw, a zillion jap bikes.

solid state drive ipods include: Touch, Nano, shuffle, iPhone.

HDD models like yours work fine on the bike if you keep them in your pocket.

Gotcha...thx v much...all makes sense :thumb2

This tempting fate, but.............

........my i-pod is an older one (like me I suppose) but works fantasticly well (also like me I suppose:augie).

I have mine, in a leather case, in my tank bag plugged into power source and never had a single problem in many 000's of miles. Perhaps the case gives it enough protection from the vibration:nenau

Kieth, perhaps you could put your ipod in a foam case and give it a try

in case you're interested...

i use an old 5G HDD ipod in my pocket, when on the bike. coupled with Ultimate ear monitors, and a Belkin Sport Command remote control velcro'd to the bike.

works great :thumb2

Thx Kev, and I hope yours continues to work w/out issues...:clap

I've now got a RAM aqua box mounted onto the screen bar, so I may use some of the extra foam pads and see if that works. Failing that, I'll borrow a more recent i touch etc until I buy an iphone in a year or so.

get one of these

Several of my mates have had ipods destroyed by bikes, ive got a nano 2nd generation 8gb solid state drive, here never missed a beat in 20000 mls.
It uses memory chips rather than a physical spinning drive which fecks up after a while if mounted on the bike.
mine an 8gb that holds around 1400 songs, and run through an autocom will last 28 hrs of play without a recharge.
atb Paul
ps otherwise just put yer pod in yer pocket off the bike in a water proof bag.

Mine used to do the same too, but it was mounted on the mirror thus adding to the problem. I did think about fitting a SSD in it but in the end upgraded to a Zumo and have the music integrated with the GPS

Ta Pauly - the missus has agreed to give up her i pod touch until I invest in another...so I'll have a solid state items for me funky tunes....:D

keep mine in the tank bag or my jacket pocket:thumb

Mine stays in my pocket unless it's low on power then it goes in the tankbag to charge from the aux. power socket. I don't recall it ever freezing up from this.
On the other hand, when I use it in the car it can freeze up from power surges when starting the car up or from putting it in the cradle while the engine is running. The last time this happened I couldn't reset it without plugging it into the computer.
