It's usually just the rubber covering on the loom that falls apart.
Just neatly wrap it with self adhesive loom tape, mine came up well with no issues & looks a professional result too.

I think there are deeper problems in this case, as power is going into the loom, but not coming out the other end.

Any recommendations for self adhesive loom tape, or just whatever Google throws up? I was thinking glossy waterproof rather then cloth?

cloth is best for this job, glossy does not last. Cloth is also very very sticky. I just get mine from Amazon, choose your width.

Self-amalgamating tape is my preference..When cured it’s flexible and waterproof, available at Screwfix..
