I want a push bike, but what to get ?

I second the cable disc remark above. I had a cyclocross bike that had them. I lived in the very (steep) hilly Yorkshire pennines and never had an issue with them. (and we managed for decades on rim brakes quite well)

+1 for cable disk brakes. Properly set-up they are plenty powerful, and less hassle, especially if you intend to carry bikes in the car (I pop my front wheel out to put a bike in the car).

I like that one. :thumb2 I may invest in one of those if they can be converted to tubeless.

Ok here goes.
aged 62
erm, generously proportioned, very generously.
unfit.
what I do have is time, a fair bit of time.
so I was thinking of getting a push bike, I see there are a myriad of different types out there. So what do I get ?
it would just be for local roads. Preferable easily pedalled. I have tried a bike with big off road tyres which was hard going. The only thing I have realised is it has to be a road bike, of some sort.
need to get myself in gear as I’m thinking of doing the prostate cancer ride next month. 100 miles in August.
any advice gratefully received.
Try this.

I wouldn't let the deciding factor be whether it can be converted to tubeless, as I've found that the Schwalbe Marathon Mondial HS428 has very good puncture protection. They can be had in 27.5x2.00 inch which should fit on a 650b wheel? Personally, I've used those on my Ebike but in 700c size, and very similar pattern but in 20" size on the folding bike.

Good man, goes without saying but....easy does it for starters. I genuinely hope you 'get it', even if it's just a couple of hour long rides a week. Together with healthy eating, it'll be expensive....you'll be shedding the pounds and having to buy a new set of clothes.

Ok, gimme a quick explanation on the 650b, 700c size thingy. :thumb2 What’s the differences? :nenau

As someone previously mentioned, you can get padded undershorts so you can wear whatever you want on top. It stops you looking like Lycra-man, and also the undershorts tend to be cotton, much more comfortable than lycra.

I got some of the mountain bike type shorts that have a removable padded under short in them. It had 16 poppers that hold them in place. You can wear them under summat else if you wanted. They make a huge difference until you get used to the hard saddles. :thumb2

You may not be aware, but....do not wear your undies when wearing cycling shorts. The key thing over and above a little comfort for your arse is that they do not rub and do not have seams anywhere where you sit down, Blisters up yer arse crack will not be fun.
I've bought a fair bit of kit off this firm, including 3 lots of shirts for team entries for the Nurburgring 24hr ride. They've always been great to deal with.
The other big mail order firms are Wiggle/Chain Reaction Cycles, Merlin Cycles, Tredz, Planet X, Wheelbase.

if not consider already id seriously think about a few stretches before and after any strenuous exercise - it can prevent injuries and helps keep you mobile afterwards so you don't stiffen up (no giggling at the back). Something easy missed but it really does help.

Calf , quad, hamstrings for 2 mins before and after definitely worth doing imo.

Get some padded shorts.
........and just do 10 minute runs daily for a week or so. There's no easy way to break in yer arse.

If you've ever learnt guitar and can remember how your finger tips felt

I think you made a great choice. Giant is a good manufacturer, and I think you've chosen a style of bike that will suit your needs really well, and which is quite adaptable should you ever want to be more racy, or more off road oriented. As it is, it'll be a great all rounder. Enjoy it!

Yeah, I can do a ride to the Yarborough estate which is about 2 miles each way. That’ll do for starters.
I actually didn’t intend to buy padded shorts, I’ve stretched my finances enough ATM.
the only other item I’m thinking of is some sort of handle bar bag to put keys, phone etc in.
