Some ideas

Hi Lone Tiger

welcome to the site. These bikes don't get stolen as often as you might think, but they do go.

I have both bikes safely locked in a garage, but I invested in a ALmax chain for each bike if parked on the street.

Have a look here. they are the best. the chain fits nicelt through the rear subframe if you don't have paniers fitted. Obviously you need something solid to lock it to.

The other trick is to use a bike cover. they seem to make the less visible and stops someone sitting on it or fiddling with the bits.

My 2p for what its worth.

Regards,

Path.

buy a house with a wide front door,or a good chain with a ground anchor and a lock with built in alarm so it sounds when the chain is moved not just when the bike is moved, also try a baby alarm under a cover so you can hear the bike being tampered with,if all else fails get a paintball gun and keep the balls in the freezer-they will not come back:augie

On my commute I see quite a few on the street. They've been there a while and don't get nicked. There's even an HP Sport parked up in the same space every day in Chelsea.

I think the problem is when you go on holiday or don't use it for few days / business trips etc. I had to rent a garage nearby eventually and it's bl**dy expensive! :blast

Best option would be to share one to split the cost.

Get a cover

Fella,

Buy a cover for it and a good lock. Get a non descript cover not all singing and dancing bacofoil the duller the better.

It does make a massive difference, just make sure you chain it to some thing immovable. If you can when you chain it up try and do it so the chain and the lock its self are not on the floor, very very difficult to attack a lock without any purchase.

Not buying a bike because it might get nicked :rob:rob:rob, dont even think about it. Get it insured. That just means the filth who steal from others have ruined your enjoyment of a motor bike before you even got it.

Crazy, buy one insure it and ride till the tyres fall off

Where can I get a cover that will fit a gsa with panniers and top box fitted. should roll up pretty small. can soon make it look scruffy

B&Q

Mate,

jump on yer bike fully loaded, ride it to your local hard wear store and buy a cheap nylon based tarpaulin affair, tenner or there abouts. Put it over your bike. Work out exactly how big you need it. Cut it down to size. Throw what you dont want in their bin. Invest in a couple of bunjee straps. Over a couple of weeks the tarp will soften and be easier to roll up. Use the bunjees to (a) keep it rolled tight, (b)lash it to your bike.
You may have to replace it after a year or so but I would suggest it ten quid well spent.

It doesnt need to be storm proof cause that s not what you are buying it for. Having said that a nylon based one should be water proof any way.

Hope that helps.

Move.

London is a shit hole :D

I have to agree. Took the wife and a few female colleagues to see that Bubble bloke at the O2 last night. Sunday night and we were crawling alond the N Circular and through the blackwall tunnel. I always feel like I need a damn good wash if I have ventured inside the M25.
On the security issue, I know it can be difficult getting something convienient to chain the bike to. I have seen instances where owners have chained their bike to a drain cover. This seems like a very practical solution. It would be pretty easy to design something to loop through and around one of the metal `slats` with eyelets for running a chain through then get a local engineering company to make it up. I wouldn`t leave anything permanently fixed to the drain cover when the bike is not parked up for fear of being sued if a cyclist etc should fall off due to it.
