I was soldering a 5 amp wire onto the live that goes into the back of the rear power accessory socket. The ignition was switched off.

When the soldering iron touched the wire , the headlight came on!

Well obviously I had forgotten that those accessory sockets stay live for a few minutes after ignition is turned off. And the answer was to disconnect the battery....but how is it that the light came on?

Presumably the soldering iron allowed the live to go to earth.....but still I don't get the light bit.

I'm just inquisitive....and a bit simple.

Don't they remain live even with the ignition off on the 1200? They do on my 1150.

Only for a given time. Totally different electrical system. Pages 93-4 of the instruction book gives chapter and verse

I was aware of the CanBus system. Oh well another reason for me not to buy a 1200, my tent light wouldn't be much use for five minutes at a time.
