iAbs problem freaking me out, please help

Hi,

I've got this nasty ABS problem and i'm beginning to lose sleep over it.
It's a 2005 1150 Adv with iabs.

After 10 minutes of riding, the triangle warning light comes on and stays lit.
At the same moment the abs warning light starts blinking at 1 Hz.

I'll still have assisted braking on the front and rear but no ABS.

GS-911 says it's a 'front abs sensor problem'.
Replaced the sensor and error still occurs.

Read about the battery issues regading abs-problems so i installed a new gel type.

Error still occurs
Sometimes i can reset it using the GS911, sometimes i can't.

Any thoughts anyone ?

Is the gap set correctly on the sensor? dodgy connection? abs ring damaged in some way.

Gap is about 0.4mm but i can't seem to find the correct distance for a 2005 1150 GS ADV

Ring is ok.
No missing spcers and runs straight by the first looks of it.

The new front ABS sensor that i placed goes in a connector under the saddle.
From there, there's another wire that goes to the ABS unit.
I suppose i need to check that one too...
Big job though as i'll have to dismantle a big wire-tree...

After i placed the new gel battery, the new fault only occured after 1h as opposed to the 10m on the old battery. Odd isn't it ? Makes me think it's the ABS unit. Are those real expensive ?

Does anybody have a link to the electrical schematics of a 2005 1150 GS.
I only have those of the 2000 model...

May sound daft,but try replacing the tail/stoplight bulb and check contact for corrosion.

i read about the taillight thing but i tought that check was only done during startup ?
Is it an ongoing test during riding too ?

Would't the GS911 have it's own errorcode for a bad taillight/brakelight ?
It always shows there's a problem with the front abs sensor...

Just to be sure i'll buy a new one tomorrow and keep you posted.

On the 1200 the limit switches for the brake light can cause the dreded red triangle.
Remenber they are "normally on" and the ajustment could be borderling causing an intermittent problem.

No, at least on my 1150. A dodgy tail-light bulb brings on a warning light to tell me to change it, while rear illumination is maintained using the remaining filament. Brakes keep working fine.

Colban... you're a genius sir !!

Replaced the taillight and error hasn't occured once during a 3h drive.
Held the old one under a loupe and one of the fillaments had a tiny gap.

Seems the fillament checking function of the abs-unit is an ongoing test during riding after all...

Funny though as to why the GS911 kept telling me it was a front abs sensor problem because when i did the test without a taillight/stoplicht it said "defective rear light"

Oh well it's gone now so i'm happy

Finally solved the mistery behind the cat code plugs aswell so my weekend was gooooood

My GS had no Motronic plug and that bothered me...
I knew BMW wouldn't go to the trouble of fitting a plug socket and coding fuel-tables in an EEPROM ... and then not put the plug in to use it all...

After a lot of searching, i found this table wich explains it all :

Connected 30 and 87 this afternoon and the bike now runs a lot smoother...

Turns out if there's no plug, the Motronic-unit thinks the bike is a non kat, 850GS.
Mi bike is a kat 1150 GS adv and my Motronic knows that now and uses the correct fuel/air/rpm-mapping table

What's your bike ?
Have a plug in there ?

My bike is a March 2003 1150 with kat, but without any kat code plug (came like that when I bought the bike September 2008) Still - runs very smooth.

I found out today there's different levels of 'smooth'
