IAM Petition to Remove Wired Cable Barriers

This petition has been raised by the IAM hence I am sharing under training, if a grown-up moves it to a more appropriate area, thank you.

Please add your name here to try and remove 143 miles of cable barriers still present on England's strategic road network by the end of the decade. Replacing them with a standard guardrails and or/concrete as is appropriate for the given road environment.

I recall the cable barriers being installed years ago, with all sorts of predictions of bikermates being sliced like a cheese in a grocer’s store.

Has it happened? No.

Of course, whether sliding and colliding with metal Armco is so much better is a matter of opinion. Me? I’d rather not test either.
 
I wholly agree that tension cable barriers are a scary thing and likely to lead to bad outcomes for anyone coming into bodily contact with them, but why isn’t this a standard parliamentary petition?

In answer to @Wapping, I guess we don’t know whether another type of barrier might have been safer (or not) because the accident reports are not published like rail, air & marine.
