Ive passed my IAM green badge a few weeks ago, my current insurer hastings direct has sent through my renewal.
They said pre test pass, yes they would give further discount for the green badge, now it comes to renewal, they wont.
So off to Surety , the IAM's own insurance broker, class 1 business use free, cheaper excess,no extra charge for a higher ridden mileage,£1000 of extras covered free, exhaust mods no prob as long as road legal, pillion cover free.
So ive gained all the extras above and it was 10% cheaper.:augie
£116 fully comp,feckin result, getttt innnnn there....:thumb:thumb
oh and i forgot to say, all the docs turned up via email now.

Just to balance that view: they won't insure me because I live in London (SW14) and do not have a garage.

I'd guess that 80% of IAM members living in London cannot get insurance from them.

Some benefit !

Seemed like a good idea to give them a try, but their system was archaic, website was outdated, and you have to talk to them - no way to get a basic quote online.

OK - I don't mind talking to people, but I have spoken to them on 3 separate occasions over the last few years, and each time they have been more expensive than BMW insurance!

Now I live in a reasonably safe place, little crime, have a garage and no accidents, been driving and riding for years - Strange the way it works out.

So as with all these things it pays to ring around:rob

Yup ring around - I've been cheaper through a broker with Norwich Union for the last 3 years, but this year IAM Surety beat their quote.

BMW Insurance have been roughly twice as much each year I check, perhaps when I get a newer bike their price will be nearer. (Mind you, about £70 fully comp might give you an idea of how old my bike is :) then I add as much again for recovery etc).

A.

maybe worth another call

It was quite painless, quick and efficient, i had a few probs this afternoon, but they rang back as promised, and all is now well in the nomad household.i'm well pleased.deffo use them again.

I don't live as far into London as Achim but 2 bikes ungaraged and they would not touch me either. Now with BMW - for the 3 BM's:augie

I live in North Wales - ride a 1200GS - am an IAM Observer & a BikeSafe Observer and over the last 3 years they have been consistently (10 - 20%) more expensive than other quotes I've received. :nenau

So you pays your money & takes your choice

Just changed my bike to a new GSA, Bennetts (current insurer) was £288, BMW wanted £231 and IAM Surety £168 (£200 with Protected NCB and legal cover)

I've also had my car insured with IAM Surety as they were a lot cheaper than everyone else even though I'm only a green badge holder - it's worth bearing in mind when you're up for re-newal.
