Dear friends

With the endless days of summer nearly upon us I was thinking of trying to get my IAM done.

Castle Davros is centrally situated in Whickham, Gateshead so I have the choice of either the Durham or Northumberland local IAM groups - I'm from Northumberland orginally [and work in Morpeth] so I kind of gravitate towards the NAM but the Durham group seems well organised too.

I'd be interested to hear your opinions or "observations"[sorry] about either of the groups or of the IAM assessment process.

[If you want to slag anyone off personally probably better to PM me]

Cheers - hope to get a ride out in the not too distant future...

Respectfully yours

Davros

DAM is a friendly group which is leading the way with IAM in developing the National Standards for Observer training, meaning that DAM standards are being used for a lot of the training packages.

DAM has a very good close working relationship with Durham Police who are a pro-bike, pro active bike section populated by enthusiastic bikers. Of the regular social run outs, one per year is generally led by one of the Durham Police on their personal bike.

If you want to try our method of Observing (one to one, dedicated Observer) to see if it suits you, I can arrange for a run out with one of our senior observers for a trial session.

Feel free to PM me if you want any info.

Chairman & Observer DAM

I went with the Northumberland group and they seem a nice bunch, but I suppose it would have been the same with the Durham lot,
It's down to you mate whats going to be the nearest as I found you could be called at short notice.
Enjoy,,,,,,,,,,, it opened my eyes

It's a small world, I went to Whickham front street junior school and then Whickham comp. :rob

It's a nice area with easy access onto good biking roads :D

It is a small world!

Whickham Comp is my Alma Mater - I was there from a sprog in 1973 to a spotty, lanky adolescent in 1979.

Max Williams was the headmaster then.

Whickham is a nice enough place to live but it could do with a decent pub for those of advancing years.

'kin 'ell

Starting to look like "Friends Reunited", I sat my O levels in '78 :D

NAM & DAM

Wouldn't it be nice to join the two up and become Tyne & Wear Advanced Training?

:hide

I wouldn't mind doing it too?
Durham would be the choice for me.
I have 7 points on my licence for for careless when I had my bike accident over 4 years ago. I know my friend got "let go" for having being caught speeding ta 105?

I was at Whickham Comp 79, Gibside, happy day`s.

I did my training through NAM, great bunch. Ray Charlton was my observer , along with other members of Nam splintered off to form North East motorcycles.
NAM is more than a training group, do ride outs, meets, good crack.
Stuart a bike policeman from Durham conducted the test, first class dude, very skilled, hope this is still the case, excellent guy.

Talking of excellent all round good guy`s.

It`s very sad news that Neil Hamilton`s funeral was yesterday, attended by bike`s . Neil was very active with advanced riding in the North East and will be missed. Big heart , died in a bike accident at Tow Law. RIP big man.
