Mrs Berin and I are planning to visit Iceland this summer, shipping our KTM 690's up with Eimskipp. On most of our other trips to North Africa, East Europe, the Balkans, etc, we've not bothered with camping, as it's more gear to carry, it's been pretty easy to find accommodation.

So we normally have some digs booked for the first and last nights, and find the rest en-route. I've recently heard, however, that digs may be hard to come by in Iceland, especially if not booked in advance. Does anyone have any experience of this? Would we be OK just turning up?

Planning around 3 weeks, last week of July 1st 2 weeks of August.

It'll be busy so obviously best to book ahead but of course that limits your flexibility, we camped last time and are doing the same again this year (campsites in Iceland are great and not expensive, £12 -£15 average) but if we do decide to have accommodation we'll try and book a day or so before hand.
