It's looking as though I might have to take a little drive up to Reykjavik next week... Just been having a quick look at the map and I recon that I'm going to need somewhere to stop over in southern Denmark as well as southern Iceland.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers,

M

you'll need a heck of a ramp to jump that puddle....:augie

are you doing the harwich to esberg crossing? it might be cheaper to stay in northern germany then drive up to the ferry...

flensburg is very cheap if you have a look I might people who still have holiday lets up that way...PM me and I'll have a ring around!

I don't have the details yet other than it'll mean leaving next Thurs, to catch the ferry to Iceland on Sat. I suspect that I'll be taking the tunnel through to France and then driving up from there.

Flensburg is one of the areas I was looking at so when I have some details, I'll drop you a PM. However, I'll probably be more after hotels/hostels as I won't be staying long and I don't want have more than 'carry on' type luggage with me as I'll be flying home.

I was in Denmark last weekend. I would recommend you stay in Ribe in Dk, lovely little town but a bit further to drive then Flensbourg which is in Germany. For Reyhjavik this place is good: http://www.alba.is/ for the rest of Iceland these places are excellent: http://www.farmholidays.is/

Cheers Devon.

My previous trip around Iceland was a camping one, so the farmhouse stuff will be useful ta. Ta also for the Alba link but I think I'm sorted at the Reykjavik end...

As there's not much difference going over the top, I might see if there's somewhere in Akureyri and go that way instead.

I'll have a quick look at Ribe in a mo... :thumb

HI Icelandic Hostels.........Used them a lot this year and if they're still open worked out to be very cheap accomodation.

Also used guesthouses, hotels and cabins in Hofn, Vik, Selfoss and Hella over the years aswell as the viking hotel in Hafnarfjordur which although a bit cheesy had a 'Viking' theme........!

Remember to stop at the www.Icelanderupts.is visitor centre and watch the film about how the 2010 eruption affected my friends farm at Thorvaldseyri near Skogafoss say hi to the blond girl who works there and my friends mum(good folk museum there with a Landrover in it)

If you have time a day driving around Snaefellsnes is well worth it as I hadn't been there before and also the ferry to Westmannaeyjar(Heimaey) is good and you can walk up the Eldfell volcano and bring home some ash thats still too hot to touch if you dig down a few inches at the top.......!

Also learned on my last trip that if you buy the Islensku kjott supa(lamb soup) you get as many pieces of bread and a free refill or two.........That made my day at the Skogar folk museum.

Don't know much about Denmark but if you see Sarah Lund from the Killing(BBC4) tell her her sweater is still hot.........And that Borgen bird isn't half bad either!

Are you going to see Dassi and the guys at Islandrover.......?

Cheers FP.

I'm not sure if Dassi is involved as I haven't got all the details yet... Either way, unfortunately, I'm not going to have much time for sight seeing this time (it's OK, I've been to Iceland before and plan to go back for a holiday in the next couple of years).

Well, I've managed to sort things so that most of my sleeping will be done on ships, I'm catching the Thursday night crossing from Harwich to Hook and then the Sat crossing from Denmark to Iceland. So, the only hotels I've needed to book are in Aalborg & Reykjavik. :D

...and on top of that, I'm going to be able to meet up with an old school mate, who I've not seen for years as he lives in Reykjavik. :friday
