Iceland to Scotland

Airports reported as closed in Iceland now...hope they got away before the shutdown....

Islensku BMW motorhjolklubbins skemmtiferd af Skotland!

On your return trip - after Edinburgh take the A68 instead of the A1. Much, much better ride and no dual carriageway. The border crossing is beautiful and the roads are fantastic. Probably a bit shorter distance as well.
Just watch out for speed cameras on the Scottish side.

But then they'd miss out on the delights of East Lothian and Berwickshire and of course Mrs P's tea and cakes......!:D

Delights are listed below......

Athelstaneford Flag Heritage centre
Scottish Museum of Flight at east fortune
Umberto's Italian in Dunbar
Crystalrigg Windfarm and Lammermuir tour
Fast Castle Headland and views
St. Abbs head harbour and Eyemouth, Burnmouth etc
Chain Bridge border crossing
Berwick Upon Tweed
Lindesfarne if the tides out.....!
Tour of a Scottish farm although i'm not sure if that's a delight but I may get to practise some of my 'bad' Icelandic.

If any UKGSers want to meet up let me know as i'm not too sure what the Icelandic bikers plans are but there were 17 bikes and twenty people. One of them is already in the Uk but as for the rest...........Depends on Eyjafjallajokull!

I'm originally from East Lothian and accept that it has much to offer (looking at your list - I hope they have an OS map and a tent) esp. if they ignore as much of the A1 as possible.
Leave Embra via Musselburgh (Mrs. Foremans) and take the coast road by Aberlady and Gullane, North Berwick (home town), Tantallon etc.
BUT - the A68 is still better - the climb over Carter Bar and the subsequent ride ride down to Otterburn is second to none.
Also - I think the Chain Bridge is still closed over the Tweed - not sure if they will be aware of this in Iceland.
Maybe a compromise would be best - leave E. Lothian via Garvald and head up to the Whiteadder - plenty of opportunities to fall off/enjoy a challenging ride.
