Iceland

Good photos

Hi

A group of us want to explore Iceland next year.

Could I ask if you took your own bikes or hired them out there.

good one:beerjug:

We went 2 years ago and going again next year, problem is for us is the ferry from to Denmark won't be running which would mean riding all the way to Hirtshalls so will probably ship the bikes next time and fly there, this'll give an extra week in Iceland.

Cracking video and pictures :beerjug:

Loved that. My son just came back from a few weeks working in Iceland and we have been chatting about going back on the bikes. My only reservation is the weather. He had some very wet and cold weather in July. Any information on weather would be appreciated.

So you dont like the Icelandic summer

Adrian

When my son, who rides everyday all weather here, suggests Iceland might be more fun in a 4 x 4, I have to stop and wonder;) Maybe he was unlucky, there are some stunning images in the video, but all his pictures are shrouded in mist with rain falling.

Great photos and video. I would love to do Iceland. What are the river crossings like for someone who doesn't have much off road experience?

Can be hard even for someone who has that experience :-)
We sank the Beta completely in a deep ford in the late afternoon. Better to wait for the next morning when the water is not that deep (due to less melting water from the glaciers)

wet, cold and windy. Your son may be right that Iceland might be more fun in a 4x4. On the other hand: Steve, who is from Wales, loved the weather :-)

I spend plenty of time in Wales and just came back from Scotland, so sounds like I will enjoy it. Maybe my sons (over) reaction to the weather was because he spent most of his outdoor Icelandic time on a bicycle. He his a student and could not afford to hire either a bike or a car for more than a few days. His work in Iceland was unpaid as part of his course. He loved the place though, and the "dry" Icelandic humour, and will be back, maybe the two of us with the bikes.
