my ´91 para fried its (probably original) telefunken ICU because after 20 years there was no heat transfer paste/grease.

admittedly 20 hot Spanish summers, but still worth checking watever your riding conditions.

especially when a new one is 50 quid, and the kickstart version (impossible without it) 100 GBP......

fortunately James Sherlock sorted me out with a used kickstart unit for 20 pounds:thumb2

Does the kickstert model need a specific Ignition unit then ? Would a 1993 para 100 GS PD, which has a kickstart as standard, be fitted with the "kickstart" version as OE ?

Were there any warning symptoms before it failed , or did it just fail ?

Thanks, and don't mean to hi-jack your post, but thought it was pretty relevant !

Hi there,
i have a 94 para with kickstart and as you state its not possible to start the old girl up using that method. Could you please advise on what the correct telefunken ICU is as i would love to hear her come to life with a prod on the kickstarter. I hope all of you are enjoying the summer now that it is officially here for as much as i like riding the bike all year round it is even more rewarding on summer days. Stay between the hedges, Stash.

Look at the serial numbers in my photo above..one is for the kick start and the other just electric thumb start ( can't remember which is which - been on the gin tonight :augie).
Simple ( expensive ) swop...and you don't kick but just gently prod the kick start ( and if she hasn't fired up after about four goes, then press the starter button :D )

Doh just clicked my link and its not going to the right place now :blast

Good list of possible donor vehicles if you fancy a wander around a scrappy.
How many of them also use the same bean can ?? :thumb
