My mind was made up,I've got a test ride booked on the 4th March and I'd decided that despite my TC being only 18mnts old, that if the new WC went and looked as good as is being reported then I'd order one.

So,a few tentative enquiries were made as to the cost to swap.
As I said my TC is 18mnts old has the premium and dynamic pack 8k mls fsh and brand new tyres.

Now bearing in mind that when I swapped my last GS when it was 2yrs old for this one it cost me around 3k I was expecting something similar or just a bit more.

I asked them to price me for the TE with vario top box (would have to get some alloy panniers elsewhere)and crash bars.

They came back with a figure of £6,350 :eek::eek::eek:

As much as I fancy one I can't see it happening.

FFS, im sorry but that is a rip off for sure. If you did the deal that would mean that bike will have cost you about £80 a week since youve had just to own...:blast fuck that keep it and get your moneys worth. :blagblah:blagblah

Astles?

Tax

Everyone knows with the tax that the depreciation is highest in the first year!!
With a newer model it is bound to be even higher.

If you must have the new model:( sell privately but you still won`t get a deal on a new one.

But your old bike didn`t become scrap overnight. Keep it, save a stack and get out more on rides rallys etc. This will give you more enjoyment than a new bike,:augie IMHO

My GSA was 18 months old when I was forced to get rid. Had similar mileage, dynamic and premium pack and full ally luggage. I got £10k for it from a main dealer.

Try Simon Sayer at Allan Jeffries he gave me a great deal on the WC against my 2010 Anniversary GS with 11k miles.

Thanks for the advice and replies.

I have a bit of a plan.
If I really really like the WC and it's much much better than the TC,then I'll put it up for sale on here with all it's extras to be sold as a complete bike.

(don't want to start selling the bits off if the bike don't sell)

If it doesn't sell, then I'll be happy to keep it and use the money I would have spent on a new crf 250l.

Steve,
I dont think there are any good deals at the moment. However , when the initial surge of sales are over you will have a better chance of a good deal.

It has been my experience Steve that you will realise more for your bike in total if you strip all the extras off and sell seperately, you never get the value back leaving it on the bike.
I changed last year from a TC GS to GSA , the farkles (and there were many) made not a toss of a difference in trying to sell the bike privately. The main stuff Fog Lights, Engine Bars, GSA Screen & Brace, Full Vario Luggage I could have got a £1000 easy for these alone on here.

Good Luck Matey if I were you I'd get going with it now as I'm sure the std GS will drop in value once water cooled is here and market for bikes such as yours will be pretty flooded with people changing up.

Walk away, you're being robbed on such a young bike

Just to put that into perspective, I count myself as being extremely lucky in owning 2 bikes, my posh bike (a clean R1150GS with full luggage and extras) and my plaything (R100GS P-D).

Their combined value is substantially less than £6k. Figures banded about by salesmen don't always sound too expensive (Ok this one did!) until you think about what else the money would buy.

Ouch!

I have to say that I am going to take the " you dont't miss what you never had" approach on the basis that my 09 GSA is a great bike and hasn't become a pile of crap overnight. I have a strong suspicion that the biggest competition for a WC and the next best bike is a.....GS TC.

The advice from the forum looks sound to me....wait a year until all the fuss is over...the focus will be on the GSA and then go for swap if you have to scratch that itch.

Exactly, take everything off, and sell it separately.:thumb I've agreed a trade in figure on mine with the dealer, and agreed what extras they don't want on the bike. I've raised over £1400 for the accessories sold on here, and now have the bike in the for sale section.:beerjug:

Sorry - not sure what you mean? How does the tax affect the S/H value?

Or - is it that VAT has now gone up to 20% (jeez - I can't even remember when that 20% rate came in :blast)

Al :)
