I'm going to take my fourwheel drive, with my GS on a big trailer behind.
Anyone want to come along, with their bikes on the trailer, and share the costs and driving.
Driving through France and Spain, and crossing into morocco.
Make a base, leave the 4wd , and use the bikes to travel around, see and experience the sights, catch some of the Paris-Dakar.
Or use the 4wd and trailer to move to different areas and go out on the bikes on day trips. Just think, riding your bikes in morocco without being loaded up with panniers and luggage - You could even bring your HP2.
Obviously, spaces limited, 5 people max in the vehicle ( including me).

Posting this now, as i know people need to plan well in advance to get work leave, and brownie points at that time of year.
Thinking of going 27th Dec, back around 10-15th january, if stuck for time, couple of people could fly back from marrakesh.

Post up if you'd be interested, and any comments you'd like to make .

Why 5 Max?

Could people not ride down semi loaded and extra gear in the 4 wheeler?

Just a thought. There would be a limit to how much gear you could get in the 4 wheeler when you want to go off for a day unloaded.

Just my 2p.

It's not a nice time of year to drive through france and spain on the bikes, i did it last year, and you need to carry such a lot of gear, to cover all the possible weather scenerios, which you then have to lug around with you in morocco .
If your sharing driving, you can drive non-stop, you can't do that riding on the bike. And the cost of 5 people sharing fuel costs works out cheaper than driving the GS - And i wouldn't want to drive an HP2 all that way

The 4wd wouldn't have anyone in it when your all riding on the bikes. So they're would be ample room. You wouldn't need that much biking gear, as you'll only be riding in morocco . I would just pack 2 panniers per bike, and chuck them in the 4wd, they'll be lots of room for pannier storage, and it'll all be neat shaped boxes. Then you have the option of using just the bikes with panniers fitted while travelling in morocco if you wanted, or just going out for days .

This sounds good Neil i'm definately intrested i'm off work over xmas anyways :thumb What kind off budget would i need to cover this

Neil,

Put me & the HP2 in the seriously interested club. I have clearance from HQ but would need to get the holiday signed off at work. The latter is an issue as I have to have preassigned coverage while I'm not there and I can't imagine that anyone in my team will even know of their New Year plans. If you fill your numbers in the meantime so be it but I'll try my utmost to schedule the holidays. I'd be happy to leave on Boxing day if it made a difference.

Have you thought about the cost of petrol/wear & tear/motorway charges vs the cost of shipping your bike out and flying to where the Dakar starts? I'm speaking to Rainbow Overland about just that.

Speak soon.
Jeremy
