Took my 1150Gs twin spark for an MOT today. Not ridden it for months, been using my Moto Guzzi California 3.
Riding along I thought the engine braking isnt what it used to be, came to a halt, idling about 1400rpm. Engine temperature the normal 5 bars. Got off bike , rocker box covers seemed hot, despite temperature gauge reading normal. So thats just me then.🙄
Bike passed the MOT.
Took the bike down the M3 on the way home, engine braking still not as obvious as it used to be, acceleration still seems good.
Off the motorway, bike nearly stalled at one point. Got home .
Idle speed inconsistent, thought it might be a coil pack, but that wouldn't explain the fast idle.
Looked at the throttle stops to see if throttle were both closing. They seemed to be. Decided to drench the return springs in isopropanol.
Rev it up, let go of the throttle, instant return to a 1000rpm idle.hold it at 2000rpm, let go, down to a consistent 1000rpm. The throttle seems to be returning with a satisfying snap. ( might be my imagination! )
Put the bike away as I have to go out.
Take it out later see if its OK.
Fingers crossed.
PS
Several times I webt for a heel and toe gearchange. LOL

Have a look at the throttle cables, have you ever fitted new ones?, happened to me when at about 80,00 miles it didn’t shut down at roundabouts, got worse an d had an rac ride home from wales. I seem to have seen (after the event!) they are supposed to be changed at 56,00 on service. Do have look as this will get worse as happened to me good luck.

My GSs have occasionally tightened up at the little plastic bend out of the switchgear... A skeet of something slippery sorted it...

Rode 140 miles today.
Idle consistent at just about 950rpm.
Engine braking is back to normal.
Still can't get my head around how cleaning the cable drums the return springs, and the visible throttle cables, returned the idle to normal.
Maybe all three combined were enough to stop one side fully returning and making the idle lumpy and too high?
