If I can’t be riding it, I may as well be cleaning it.

After taking collection of my, new to me, 1150 GSA I’ve been tackling little bits to bring back the shine, but the headers looked past saving. Not too rusted, but very blue and dull. After watching some vids and reading some posts on here I opted for the Harpic and ALU treatment and I’m pretty chuffed with the results.

can you explain in more detail please?

Sorry for the delay in replying.

These are the steps I took.

I started with a normal wash to get the mud and crud off then towel dried.

Next, wearing protective gloves and using a kitchen scrubbing pad (nothing too abrasive, just a sponge with a rougher side) I added some Harpic Power Maxx (black bottle) and scrubbed the exhaust making sure I gave the really nasty areas a good soaking. Added more Harpic as needed and worked around the headers and Y piece.

Rinse with clean water (lots of it) and if needed give it another go with the Harpic. Once you've got the exhaust back to smooth metal, dry it off, it's time to start polishing.

I used Belgom ALU. Cost about £12 from Amazon. Again I used a clean kitchen scrubbing pad I worked hard to bring back the silver colour and cut through the blueing. This took a while but got there in the end.

Finally a soft cloth and more ALU to bring back the shine.

In total took about 3 hours and cost about £9 (ALU is still half full)

I'm sure I could have got them a lot cleaner, but great results given the to e and effort.

Give it a go, you'll be amazed at the results.
