I'm BRAND new to biking and have just bought an R1200 GS for touring with the lads. I have been more than slightly surprised at my insurance quote:

37 years old
Married, homeowner
0 years NCB and held license for less than a month
Fully comp, no extra excess
Full European Breakdown cover
Helmet and Leathers Cover
Legal assistance

£325

I was gobsmacked!:thumb2

Found through Carole Nash insurance who couldn't have been more helpful.

I'd have been gobsmacked too! That seems dear...

Think I pay more than £400 for my 04 gs and Guzzi V11 on a combined policy but then I live in the SK1 post code area which is classified as an insurance hotspot:mad:
See the attached file that is linked in the May copy of Bike.

When I first bought my GS I was amazed at how cheap they are to insure compared to Japanese and Italian bikes of similar size and value.

Sounds good for a new rider.

Whern I bought a Guzzi last year as a second bike, I only had a single bike policy so had to look for an extra policy. CN quoted me £820 comp ! (My usual policy is about £200)

Madame having similar issue today as she has just acquired a second bike.

Admit it it, you've been looking haven't you? :augie

That shiny place in Cheltenham is like a magnet ;)

I admit that I have been in there and I even bought a pair of kevlar jeans - but that could be becuase no Harley rider was slim enough to fit in them!

@ Jumpjim:

Same situation as you mate, I took thr BMW insurance at the same quote you got. TBH I thought it was gonna be a little more than that. Brand named alarm instead of factory would have made it slightly cheaper though.

mine 198 quid, 3 bikes,an i thought that was a bit sharp:eek:

poor you:comfort

mind it will come down as you get older etc etc etc

I had a 800gs last year and swopped it for a 1200gs in sept, the insurance for the 1200 was cheaper. I think its cause they are too bloody heavey to lift into a van.

Look at it a different way...

Full European Breakdown cover - thats worth £55
Helmet and Leathers Cover - worth around £20
Legal assistance - £10

So your insurance is really aroundabouts - £240

welcome to the joys of BMW ownership. :thumb2
