Fixed my finale drive seal, NOW my brake light wont go out. :blast

If I use the rear foot break, the brake light comes on and goes off when it’s supposed to.

If I use the front break lever, the brake light comes on and stay’s on:confused:. Until I stop and turn off the ignition. Once I start the bike again, the brake light goes off until I pull the front lever again?

Any one got any ideas at to why this is happening:nenau. No, the lever is not touching the hand guard, nor is it sticking, the pads front and back are good.

Sticky front brake microswitch. Not uncommon.

If you push the brake lever forwards, does the brake light go out ??

If so, you have two options:

1) Spray a lubricant eg WD40 into the front brake lever pivot and microswitch.

Or

2) Remove the handguard, slacken the tiny allen screw securing the microswitch and adjust it by trial and error until it works properly.

thanks for the reply, but as I said in the above post, last paragraph, the lever is not touching the hand guard nor is it sticking.

I have spoken to Mike? at AJ's and he thinks it could be the programing has gone bonkers or the whole handel bar switch may have gone kaput

Sorry so you did, im used to ignoring the lastline of a post as its often some deep meaningful quote, like jelly is like nailing teanagers to the wall.:thumb2

Pukmeister, I didnt know anything :nenauwhen I posted the question, so when no one replied, I contacted AJ's and asked them, they wont know for sure untill they run a diagnostic, thats why I asked the question, in case it had happened to someone else on this forum.

thanks robin, I have now given the switch a good soaking with WD40, to see if that helps. it hasent yet, but i will let it soak till the morning and try again

But the little micro switch might be, inside, give it the once over.
I spent some time on my one, and it was just a small bit of grit :blast

I'm having a problem with the right turn indicator switch. I live in Istanbul though, where it makes no difference whatsoever if indicators are used or not, so I'm leaving it.

If you listen to the switch, as you pull and release, ignition off, it goes click-click but your might only go click.
On the other hand, I think this would leave the servo running and you should hear that with the ignition on.
Do you know about the brake light taking over if the tail light filament blows?

Took bike into AJ's and they replaced the micro switch in the front brake lever. Had it done under extended warranty.

Which brings up another problem?

I have the extended BMW warranty and pay the sum of £29.00 a month on the 22nd of each month. AJ's replaced the brake switch on Monday the 13th July and when I go to collect my keys, the lovely young lady says,
"according to the computer, you don’t have an extended warranty"?)

Gulp! Yes I do, if not, what am I paying this money for?
"You will have to pay,” she say's.
"No I wont, give me the phone and I will speak to them"
Mike says " its ok, take the bike home and sort out with BMW warranty and let us know"

Not many dealers would do that. :thumb2

Any way, Helen at mottorad warranty, says it’s a mistake:augie at their end, and YES I do have the warranty. Been paying since June 2008, and she will now update the computer and let AJ's know the score.

So Glad I wasn’t abroad when that happened. :blast

So all’s good again, and a BIG thank you :clap:bow to Mike and the crew at Allan Jefferies for their service and understanding.
