Hi guys.
I've been looking for City Navigator NT North America for a while now and kept putting it off. However another trip over in first week of August that involves a fair amount of driving got me looking again.

I found GPSCITY.Com in Las Vegas, emailed them on Tues evening, got an instant reply, ordered it and the disc arrived 10am today. 36 hours from the USA - top service.

All up cost inc. ins and carriage was $135 (£70) vs about £115 from UK suppliers. Worth giving them a go if you are headin west :thumb2

Colin,

If you paid by credit card did they ask you to send a copy of both sides of your credit card and also a copy of the relevant identity sections of your passport?

I take it that was for a full product rather than an update disk? I'm looking for an update disk for City Nav North America to enable me to remove City Nav NA from my SP2720 (it's a long a torturous story...), Garmin sell for $69 over there but want £50 + vat + P&P here (rip off Britain yet again :rob ). Best price I managed to get from a US retailer so far was only a few quid less once shipping had been factored in.

I don't want to spend as little as possible as I'll never actually use the mapping (see link above if that makes no sense).

Will give them a try.

as you're not going to use the mapping, there might be no moral objection to downloading a copy of whatever mapping you require from pirate bay.

cost - nowt.

True, though I doubt Garmin/BT/lawyers/FACT would see it that way. Added to which it's pretty huge at about 7GB.

However, I think I would still require an unlock code to carry out the partial self botched upgrade I require.

The previous owner paid for a full copy of City Nav Europe and I more recently paid for the 2008 mapping update, all I need to do is clear the space so I can use this in it's entirety. It does smart somewhat to have to pay a not inconsiderable sum to do this.

I might wait until I have a week at head office in a couple of weeks time and leave my laptop on overnight so long as there are sufficient seeders, 7GB would be a drop in the ocean bandwidth wise there. Will probably result in me loosing my job for misconduct but for £50 + VAT it might be worth it :mmmm  :blast

if you were a subscriber, it's entirely possible someone here might be able to help :augie

Nope, nothing at all like that.
Once they confirmed by email it was in stock they gave me a link to their webshop and I did it on line as any normal transaction.

I got the full disc of the last-before-current version for $40 off ebay. New product being sold off cheap due to the latest release. Paid via paypal (no credit card issues) and shipped to me via my sister in Chicago as a "$15 gift".

Got me everywhere I needed to go on this trip:clap:clap:clap

Good to see they have resorted to common sense when taking international orders. I ordered some bits from them in 2004 and they were a PITA! They wanted me to fax them copies of both sides of my credit card (which my bank said not to do under any circumstances) and also my passport details. They wouldn't budge on it so I cancelled my order and went elsewhere.

Is this the product you purchased?

I am a bit new to GPS and the various maps, so if I purchased this SD card, could I plug it straight into my Zumo 550 and have the US maps on my GPS as simply as that?

Thanks

No and Yes and Yes.

I purchased the CD version which allows you to load it on to your PC and then upload onto an SD card into your unit.
This is much more convenient / useful as you can route plan, add your own POI, detours etc from the comfort of an armchair and a big screen, use the various tools etc. and then just upload.

Having said that you can just buy the SD card and stick it in as you suggest if you just use the unit.

Word or Warning - I'm told you cannot do it the other way around eg. buy the Sd card then download onto PC. I haven't personally tried it but have spoke to people who have tried via card readers etc and it won't work.
