My 1200GS died while parking it in the garage last night, the engine cut out when the handlebars went to full lock. I've had a quick look today and the problem seems to be with the 2 wires going into the bottom of the ignition barrel, not the ones on the front. This assumption has been made by having a general wiggle of the wires until the engine cut out....

The bike is now unridable as any movement on the handlebars cuts the engine. I just wanted to ask, before putting the bike on a trailer and taking it to someone who knows a lot more than I do, if anyone had experienced anything similar and is it easy ie. cheap to fix?

I had something similar on my old F650GS which included other odd symptoms such as the rear light not working. The fault was wires in the loom from the ignition switch breaking internally after years of being flexed by turning the bars. No idea if it's the same for the 1200 or not - probably got some overcomplicated solution instead!

For the 650 you could buy the electrical connector for the ignition switch to replace the damaged section but I was too tight for that on an old bike so I took it to bits, stripped back the outer covering and soldered in new wires but to be honest a new one from Motorworks would've been less hassle. :mmmm
