'04 1200 GS 32K on clock. Use it in all weather and all year round.

Went to start the bike on Monday for a business trip, nothing, no lights on dash, no whirring noises, absolutely zilch. Methinks dead battery so on charge it goes only to show me that it's fully charged within 5 minutes! Buggered so ring BM emergency assist and 8 hours later along comes my emergency assist. After asking me if the battery is flat, have I tried jump starting it (oh sir your battery is fully charged after all) and have I checked the fuses - please Mr Emergency Assist could you tell me where they are on the Can-bus system? - oh yes sir I forgot that! 30 minutes later declared that ignition switch is at fault and it'll have to go to BMW garage - Lind in Norwich.
Next day Lind ring me to tell me that it is the switch and they will have it replaced and ready for me the next day. Next day comes and 'phone call from Lind confirming that they've fixed it so they will contact BM Emergency Assist to get bike back to me. 30 minutes later Lind ring again advising me that BM Emergency Assist will not deliver back to me because I live closer than 30 miles to the garage, according to them I live 29 miles from it! Lind argue the toss with them but to no avail.
Lind decide that I'm one of their customers so they deliver the bike back to me themselves FOC!

So 1200 GS scores -1 for reliability.
BM Emergency Assist -10 for promptness in coming out to my broken bike.
Lind +5 for fixing bike quickly.
BM Emergency Assist -20 for being dickhead jobs-worths over returning bike to me.
Lind +50 for being top blokes and sorting out returning bike to me without me having to get involved.

Good job this happened whilst I was at home and not out in the middle of nowhere!

Ive just read this after a few of you guys recomending my problem is the ignition switch- exactly the same symptoms.

As for BMW assist- Id be an alchoholic (again) if I were a drinking-man with the number of bottles of wine Ive had from them when they have FAILED to deliver the service you buy- just complain IN WRITING and within a month you will be enjoying a case of John Lewis or Waitrose wine.. like I said.. if only I drank.. but the wife makes up for my abstenance,. :augie
