Any of you guys had cause to change the ignition switch? My 37000 mile 1100GS has developed an intermittent loose connection. I've traced the fault to a loose/split wire at the base of the ignition barrel which I hope I can re-solder, if not how easy is it to change??

Sorted

Thanks for yur reply. Luckily I've been able to splice and re-solder the broken wire so it should last a while longer!!;)

I had the same problem on mine but I had to replace it as there were 3 severed wires in total, it was a wonder that it still ran.

What I've done for the new one, is to take all the cable ties off at the switch end, leaving one tie near the plug under the tank. Then I cable tied the loom to the top of the left fork tube so that it makes a nice gentle arc to the ignition switch.

In that position the wiring harness doesn't twist backwards and forwards anymore trying to break itself, It just sits perfectly rigid in it's place.

Mick.
