I'll Miss Parts Of It.

Oh, I'm beginning to see how things work around here. This is the most biased, single minded forum I've ever seen. Everyone's so excited and eager to defend the GS that they're missing the point. I usually change my bike every 2 years for a new one anyway, so 18 months isn't so bad, added to the fact I never said it was a bad bike. It was actually a loan bike from BMW that made my mind up to change it. My gsa was in the shop for a replacement wheel speed sensor and they gave me an F800R as a loan. I had more fun going to work on the F800R for a few days than I did on the GS that is all. Why is it so hard for some of you to admit that although the GS is a great all round bike, it may not be ideal for nipping through city traffic?

Funny old world innit!

I too was given an F800R for the day last week by Clark's & thought it was an excellent machine! :thumb

There you go, some common ground . . . What you doing Sat night bigboy? :ymca2

Very good, and bang on topic. Are you and bod gay lovers? Maybe you two should start your own forum where you can just talk about how great the pair of you are on your gs's, and not allow anyone else a view.[/QUOT

Yep thats me Gay as ten bob note, I ride lots of bikes and thank the lord i do it for pleasure not to commute, I dont give a fuck what you ride or how you ride it, but as a forum member you are a cock, sorry mate but thats how it looks and I cant wait to inflict you on the triumph forum :D

I wonder where the OP placed his tax disc :thumb

Have you got my number :D

OP certainly sounds like he's a little too serious for GSER anyway.
In addition to the lack of sub's, he's not really going to contribute much unless he develops a bit of character first. and we know owning a BMW develops this trait.
So goodbye and please let us know how much better your next bike is.:comfort

P.S.
Have you seen that a lot of peeps here either don't own one or have other bikes in addition to a BMW.:comfort

ive been looking forward to this thread all day at work lol fookin genius this forum is lol

me too! and I can log in from work too... If it wasnt for the smiley bits on the right, i would have it on all the time as it looks quite "businessy" otherwise...

+1. I find the commute on my Honda scooter 200% easier than on the RT.
My criteria for choosing a commuter scooter was that it had to be at least 100kg lighter, so no 650 Burgman for me since it weighs the same as the RT.

Agreed...

I made the Honda Silverwing mistake 2 years ago... Nice thingy for a middle aged american living in suburban Florida perhaps, but I have never lost so much money so quickly per unit of enjoyment (or lack of)

I reckon best "town only" machines are either 130kg supermoto style bikes like a 600XT, or 250-300cc scoots. There hasn't been 1 bike (for me anyway) that truly did everything at over 90% of ability ever. GS1150 was ok (now lives in summer place Greece permanently- future classic), GS12 was even better, Fazer 1000 10 years ago was also pretty close to perfection (but ever so slightly characterless). My problem is I need something for a track day. I also need something to travel solo 3000 miles in 10 days every year. I need something for inner London/most days. And I need a UK bound/fair weather stylish thingy for riding 50miles to a picnic with the missus twice a year.

So I need 5 bikes. I am allowed 4. Thats ok.

Fact is, whoever is spending time contributing here / or any bike forum, clearly loves bikes. We don't do it for need, or economy or anything. We ride because we love it. We want bikes because they are cooler objects than cars (mostly) a bit liek helicopters are cooler than planes. Bikes are also closer to a mans heart. Be it the "freedom" or whatever phychobabble... The reality is - for most of us - if we could afford time, space and money for 100 bikes, we would have them.

So lets enjoy what we can and keep trying stuff. Whether Triumph or BMW, 200bhp sports or 45bhp trailies, biking is a close community that enjoys very similar things (in the grand scheme of things).

In June I did 6000 miles in 14 days up to Nordkapp. When I got home I sold my GSA and bought a k1300r. The change was great at first, smooth engine, unbelievable performance, truly jaw dropping power. However after 6 months I have got another GSA. Sometimes it's nice to stay in your comfort zone. I don't think you should slag a bloke off because he finds other bikes more fun, each to their own. I have owned a speed triple and they are an awesome bike. Infact me and my mrs toured the whole of Europe on one and it never missed a beat. It would be dull if we all rode the same bike.

Cheers flatdog, that's the nicest thing anyone has said to me in this thread. I'm so pleased I don't fit in with the character of the GSER forum. If owning a BMW develops the trait, then thank god I got rid. Just think, in another 6 months I could have been telling everyone that the GS is the best bike in all situations bar none, and that its the easiest bike to filter on and anyone who suggests otherwise is obviously a cock.

No, I'll leave that to you. This forum certainly has a much higher percentage of pricks than most. You fit in well. Keep posting flatdog. :thumb2

Brilliant thread this is!!!!! Got me out of doing the washing up, SWMBO said "you looked so absorbed by it I didnt have the heart to tell you to get off your fat fucking arse and do the bastard washing up"

Thank you one and all.

If ya cant say summat nice then dont say owt. thats what SWMBO has just been told regards the washing up, but I guess it has a wider application too.......

Oh and did I mention good luck witht the Triumph. I just traded in a Tiger for an F650, and am not regretting it at all, oh no not really......

Hey Silas, have you signed on to Triumph Torque yet?

No, I haven't, but it can't be worse than this one. As an outsider or new member, you've only got to read the first page of the tax disk thread to realise what this one is all about. It's embarrassing, no wonder BMW riders have a bad name.

Anyway I've enjoyed the thread, thanks all for the entertainment and responses. It's my last day in work today and I'm without internet at home at the moment as I'm in the middle of changing suppliers and waiting on BT. Enjoy the GS's everyone, they are great bikes that do most things very well. You never know, after I've had the Triumph for a couple of years I might get another one myself. Happy Christmas :beerjug:

Silas if you would like to re-read your second post of this thread, you may just appreciate where the basis of the ribbing came from.:comfort

I thought I covered that on page 1 in the 14th post. I didn't expect anything less.

Keep posting though flatdog, you're doing a great job of keeping up the reputation of the GSER forum. Just think, the more posts you have, the more important you will be, and the more you can get to use the patronising comfort smiley. :thumb

Most of the forums I'm on which have nothing to do with GS's or any other brand specific bike, has it's fair share of piss takers and daft questions to deal with. This site has a lot of them as well but I would guess in comparison this site is much bigger than any of the others I frequent and therefore has a higher volume.

Good luck with the ST, a number of my friends have them and love'em to bits. I love filtering with these guys on my GSA as I can hear them laugh their heads off when they are close up behind me at how close I'm getting with the big Alu panniers without actually hitting anything. Great fun at time's but would I use my GSA to commute up to London? No, probably not, so good luck to you Silas with your next bike :beerjug:
