Hi I'm new here... let's kick things off with a question
Can I ask for some advice...
I have just bought a K&N air filter recently and finally got around to fitting it. When I removed the intake pipe and oem filter I have discovered a pool of oil in the airbox. The filter is also soaking wet, however only on the bottom quarter of the filter. The top half is bone dry.
My bike... is a 2014 G650GS ex bmw off road bike which means I'm left wondering if the problem is 1 of 2 things..
Any thoughts or experience is much appreciated.
Would you be inclined to agree or side with either of the following?...
1. The engine could be blowing oil back past the piston rings and collecting in the airbox. Meaning it's a bit fubar and requires rebuilding.
Or
2. The bike was dropped and left on it side pumping oil back through the breather and leaving a pool which has sat there. (The fact the filter is dry on top and damp at the bottom is why I am wondering this. Ie a historic incident and it's been sat there for a while?)
What are people's thoughts?
This is my first venture into motorcycle ownership... I'm on a steep learning curve...
