Hello, new to the site, new to it all, forum's and biking taking my bike test next week after having taken my cbt last saturday. Used to ride from 17 to about 24, (over 20yrs ago now)but it's all coming back, anyway got this mad idea I need to buy a GS. but which one should I buy??? they all look so good.. new model 2009 or 2007 any thoughts or idea's.. please.

Welcome GI Joe. You will probably get a few replies saying dont buy a GS Tractor, so be prepared. I have just picked up my new GSA 09 in magnesium (hate the red) and it is a lovely bit of kit. Never really worth what they are asking for these machines and there are certainly some quality issues with these bikes (forget any reputation about German engineering) but there you go. Sometimes our boys toys are an indulgance worth lashing out on.
Have a test ride on the GS and the GSA then decide what you want to spend. A nice 07 (loads for sale) could be a cheaper option. But also try the F800GS before you decide. You may change your mind about the boxer after that!

Welcome along, as for which bike, just depends on your budget.
I've owned 1100/1150/1200 (but not in that order) they are all great bikes but different from each other.

As Dogman has said you're best off trying the bikes for yourself. They really are an individual taste-type of machine and your thoughts and impressions will depend on a number of things. Not least of all what you've ridden previously and so on.

2 things to remember are:

1. Take them for as long and varied a test ride as you can.

2. Try as many variants (GS/GSA/800 even 650) as you can. They all have their strengths and weknesses.

Hi! Thanks for the replies!! much appreciated some good sound advice! truly excited it's like being 17 again waiting for my 125 to be delivered!!
When I did my CBT I had to borrow a helmet from the school, smelt awful so I went down to to the dealership and ordered a system 6. So! I am a going to look a little odd from the back if I'm seen sitting on anything else!

The 2007 model seems a good buy at the moment low mileage etc, just wondered wether there was a noticeable difference between 07 and 09, guess will take all advice given and try them for myself, Thanks..
