My 1200 GS/A has got real problems...:spitfire

Have you seen the thread entitled “My 1200 GS/A has no real problems... well this is the opposite of that.

Well I thought it was only fair and besides two threads of complete opposite posts should be fun...

A place to generally have a whinge and sound off as to why you hate your 1200 GS/A so much.

If you have bought into the brand and are not happy with the bike, service or generally have had some issues with either then sound off here.

Start your post with,
I am not happy with my 1200GS/S because......

I'm not happy with my 1200GSA Because ....................

..............BMW TEKKY told me not to be.................:bomb

I am not happy with my BMW 1200GSA because !!!!!!! - No cannot think of a reason - guess I must like it then :thumb

I am not happy with my GSA 1200 because ....

It is now 2 weeks old and in only 1200 miles it has got dirty and I havent got the chicken strips off the tyres ........ I am really angry ..... What right have BMW to produce a bike with such blatently obvious design faults :spitfire:spitfire

IM very happy with mine.
Best thing snce sliced bread.
I couldnt live without it.
Puts a smile on my face just thinking about her.
Im in lurve.

I'm naffed as hell cos I don't have one. I just want to sit here and cry, I can't understanf why BMW don't choose me for a special treat and just give me one so I can post faults right here for you to read.

Where's tekky....I miss the idiot..

Trying really hard to think why I'm not happy with my 2008 GSA.......... duhhh....... duhhhhh.. :blast No sorry mate, perhaps better luck in a couple of years. :D

I'm REALLY not happy with mine as it's in a container somewhere on the Southern Ocean headed for the UK, so it's cold turkey for me for the next 8 weeks!!!:thedummy:spitfire:mcgun

But it's goung to be great to ride it back all the way to Australia :thumb2

I'm just not happy.

I'm just not happy generally - I have been to see the doctor, and she said - get a motorbike. (that was about 25 years ago)

I got one, and then another and then another etc etc.........and I'm still not happy.

Oh bugger...........I thought that this was the bi-polar self help support group.

Sorry..

Now I'm even more un-happy.

Better go for a ride on the the 12........I'll feel a bit better then.

I'm not happy with my 1200GS because everytime I get off it I've got a big stupid grin slapped all over my chops.

How I'm supposed to get anybody to take me seriously with a daft smilering mush is beyond me.:bounce1

Excellent response guys- not the one I wanted for this thread as I have another for this called “My 1200 GS/A has no real problems”,:blast but it is great that for once praise it outshining the whinging.:thumb2
Keep it up and please also post on the ‘Happy’ thread..........:bounce1

My last three BMW bikes have all failed within 1000 miles of buying them, so I suppose thats a fair enough reson not to be overly happy with them :blast

You're not meant to use them:blast

I'm not at all happy with mine, usually in the first few months of ownership of a bike I buy all sorts of bling to make it just right for me, the big trouble with the 12GSA is that its just brilliant straight out the box add panniers and away you go,

Sure if you are minted (or an attention seeker) you can bling them up a bit, but if you just want to get on and ride they are the best:thumb2

I'm not happy with my R1200GSA because I couldn't afford to keep it for mostly road work and buy the F800GS for messing about in the muck. BMW really do have an awful lot to answer for :spitfire

Vaguely relevant response......

Can I still contribute as a former 1200 GS owner?
ok slightly pointless question as I'm going to answer anyway, having owned 2
(04 and 06)

When it worked - brilliant. loved it. Fantastic bit of kit; go on off road skills and see what it can it can do.

When it didn't work (a lot) that's what really peeves. I've waxed lyrical enough in the past so feel free to have a look at prior rants and whinges.

Multiple failures of gearbox / clutch. Bike #1 three gearboxes in about 6,000 miles including catastrophic failure on the M4

Bike #2 "only" one failure in 6,000 miles.

Flying varioboxes (refunded)

Fuel pump relay thingy - both bikes more than once

Starting in cold weather - both bikes, complete disaster every winter.

Random electrical failures - both bikes.
Not starting up in the petrol station and then starting when pushed down the road 200 yards
"EWS"

Gear position indicator - 1st bike. Gear indicated bearing no relation to actual gear. Very annoying; causes problems with electrickery - "computer says no" so stranded again.....

Complete electrical failure on the move - no lights, horn, abs, servo.....

Rear shock failure under 10,000 miles (zero off road use)

Steering lock failure - warranty repair refused - that'll be £1,000 pounds please. (feel straw breaking camels back)

Disposed of on last day of warranty. Replaced with new Varadero(don't start you lot.:augie....) with lots of extras & 24 month warranty and very bright headlightsfor less than the cost of a 12 month warrany extension, which it appears does not cover the steering lock!

Summary:
GOOD - the bike when it works
Park Lane / Battersea huuuuuge improvement over the years

BAD
ReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliabilityReliability
BMW warranty. They listen - NOT
BMW scheme insurance three times as expensive as Honda.

I hate mine because I have withdrawal symptoms if I don't ride it every day.

Dave

First gear too high.
Fuel filler too high when on centre stand (honestly I can't see in it to judge when to stop)
I'm not too high...low seat sorts that.
