Had my GSA on the Dyno this morning for a custom fuel map after fitting the power commander at the weekend. The first run confirmed that the fueling was way to weak right across the rev range producing 102.83 Bhp and 78.79ft lbs of Torque. There after Tim Blakemore set about creating a custom fuel map after and hour and a half the GS was wheeled out now producing 108 Bhp and 83 66.ft lbs of Torque. Riding the GS home it was immediately apparant that the idle, low speed jerkyness was gone replaced by a silky smooth flexible engine with much more responce to the throttle . I checked the fuel computer on the way down with an average of 46.7, on the return journy it was 53.2 ! A good improvement over the standard set up and peace of mind knowing that the fueling is spot on :cool:
 
Remind us - what year is your bike and which exhaust do you have fitted?
 
Let me get this right. You enriched the mixture and your fuel consumption went down. :confused:

YEs it "Can" by putting in the correct fueling the bike can develop more power now than at similar revs with the previous map

More power means less gearchanges and less wrist action to achieve the same results as the earlier map

I tuned a mini with a Megadyne cam Twinchoke downfradt on a mangoletsi manifold and a plethora of other mods (rev limiter was 8200rpm from a 1300 ish cc) in town 30 mpg on country roads 47 to 50 mpg At 60 (One of the mods was a metro HLE gearbox with the slightly higher ratios) the mpg went higher again when I changed the weber for a inch and 3/4 SU performance was better too Yum Yum I loved that car :aidan:aidan:aidan

So sitting on the motorway at 70, an enriched mixture would save fuel.

No You're not listening, Are you? Not an enriched mixture

A correctly Jetted / injected fuel air ratio will allow the engine to achieve better volumetric efficiency than too lean or too rich a mixture!

Better burn = better power = less throttle = better mpg

Simples!

When you say 'listen to this twaddle' do you mean you can hear it, I turned my volume right up and all I get is a slight buzzing sound.

Is my computer broke?

Prolly....Just like mixtures are leaned to pass legislative measurement...your speakers are inhibited...didn't you know that?
 
Obviously you have your opinions and I have mine

Mine are based on 30 plus years of building and tuning engines?

Quite a few competition Bike, and Car ones included in that

My mentor was David Vizard and I still tend to follow his ideas

with a few others on the side?

A 1200 hexhead is a lean burn engine it is also a production engine where small imperfections that a tuner would remove are left because they can't afford to spend the time making a perfect engine when they need thousands of them
There is also a generalised map for the fueling which has been changed from time to time

What the guy in this instance did was very sensible and a bloody good idea a pity BM didn;t do this at first service!
Anyway he took it in, they have done a dyno run with an engine under load and tweaked the fueling where it was not power efficient and corrected it with a custom map.

Hence a more powerful and fuel efficient engine!

It just pisses people off :mad:
I understand how it works, so do Land Rover who have developed a V8 diesel that is capable of 40 mpg, all done by fuel management it may use slightly more fuel at certain revs but it develops more power and therefor pulls a higher gear more effeciently at lower revs = better fuel economy
You just keep to Exploring :thumb2 as we all know your an expert at that !!:augie
