Curious to know what bike you ride FATONE. Can't quite see the logic in your post. You are somewhat scathing in your comments about the GS and it's riders, then you say you will probably end up buying one. If you are so embarrassed about discussing Crash bars, Tobinators etc; how come you are a member of this fraternity? Strange, very strange :nono

That said I’ll probably end up buying a GS but I’ll be seriously embarrassed to end up at a GSer Rally talking about tobinators and touratechy thingies. The thing about touring (especially solo) is that it’s a mind thing, not a bike thing.

I'd be pretty surprised if that was conversation at a GS meet, it's more usually about where the ride outs will be, who's the biggest tosser, etc...but feel free to to do the 'mind thing' in a corner... :eek If it's not about the bike btw....buy a moped... :thumb

And for the TOP CASE????

Givi or something in aluminium. The BMW article is seriously over-engineered. and a disaster waiting to happen (except for the dozens of cases where the accident has already happened!).

What accidents...? I\m not particularly fond of the BMW Top Box - won't hold two helmets - barely one...but a few folk haven't been happy with the Givi one either...Matkat recently sold his because he was unhappy with it...

There have been lots and lots of complaints of the BMW article falling off.

As for problems with Givi..... been using them for years with no problems, and hadn't until now heard of any. Would think twice about fitting the panniers on a GS, but each to their own.

Yep I recall now there were some problems with losse fittings but that was sorted wasn't it...?

Nadeem, not trying to blow me trumpet, but as an experienced engineer I cannot figure out what the hell BMW were thinking when they designed the mounting catches on the 12 luggage. The collapsing boxes are a great idea fairly well implemented, but the catches scare me. The fact of having a whimpy plastic catch to hold a whimpy plastic catch just introduces somewhere else for things to go wrong! At least the Givi article is sturdy and well proven. Maybe the BMW will be well proven too, but I just can't bring myself to risk them.

OK! I have my actual GIVI MAXIA with many stickers to preserve...

Well, the thread is I'm ready to order my new 1200GS! Last Questions and the logic is that whilst it is clearly apparent that it will be a GS, I thought I might make a few alternative suggestions. Such actions may be construed as sacrilege on a one bike website, I guess. As for being ‘scathing’, surely one is a little too sensitive? How many times have you sniggered, surreptitiously, whilst in the company of Goldwingers? And is it not true that the GS is one of the Continent’s best-sellers? Hence my mum jibe.
Currently I ride a 748 Ducati (bought in 1998) and a VROD (2004). Recent bike history Honda XR400R (bought 1999 sold 2004) and 1100GS bought (2000 sold 2003). The most disturbing thing about all of this is that the VROD introduced me to the cult of HD, where no other bikes exist and owning a Harley is the meaning of life. As a potential 1200 owner, I just wouldn’t like see this happening with the GS.

But he wasn't looking for alternative bike suggestions, only bits for his new bike...only you decided that he should look at something else and bore us all with your patronising suggestions.

We have plenty of members who ride other marques, but don't get 'sniggered' at...you seem full of suggestions on what everyone here should & shouldn't be doing...whilst hiding behind a pseudonym and basically looking down on everyone with your sarky remarks about what we do at meets, etc...you need to re-evaluate your attitude to the users on this site.

Be careful FT... it's a well known fact that VRODers are the :ymca of the Harley world.

Don't want people on here getting the wrong idea eh? ;)

Strewth. No wonder I was feeling uncomfortable.
You should hear what they say about gsers.

Vrod gives meaning to his life....
