imac applications

I was messing about with imac downloading google earth put it in applications folder in dock just to the right of the checkered line
when I clicked on in and accidently dragged the whole folder out the dock when I took my finger off it just disappeared
no idea, all applications are in finder but it was handy having them in the dock
just when I think I'm getting the hang of this stuff I go and muck up

Easy: drag again the application folder (Macintosh HD > Applications) to the right side of the Dock.

The one on the dock is just an alias of the original folder (that stays in its place).
You can drag folders and documents to the right side of the dock. Applications only on the left of the checkered line.

they don't appear as a folder to open anymore though
they are just layered icons now ??????????

update just right clicked and set as folder
