Anyone explain why my iMac (Aluminium model) has started to take longer to boot. It's got slower over time not just happened -BANG! but it's almost like being back on Windows.
Thought I'd got away from depreciating OS when I moved to OSX (Snow Leopard)

my iMac has been doing the same thing - after some deeper sniffing round, seems 10.6.3 is a bit well f*cked..........

I found the only quick fixes are
* reset safari
* empty cache (click on safari in the top left corner)

Than allow repair your permissions in disk utility * the do a repair disk.

so far Apple Care & I have had 4 hopurs of quality time togather.

Hopefully there is some here that can help us!!!!

no problem here with 10.6.3

i do only boot my macs occasionally though. most of the time they just Sleep.

Empty cache (system wide, not safari)
Repair disk permissions

Check your overall hard disk status (eventual bad blocks, etc.)

Have you installed any additional fonts? Sounds weird but, if badly managed, a lot of fonts can slow down the system.

I was under the impression given by Mac owners that they never had any problems. I guess it must be you getting faster than your machine which makes it just seem slow. :augie

have to admit i'm amazed by the amount of people here who never have their mac freeze, or any other problem really. mine certainly throws a paddy every now and again.

safari is usually the worst offender on my mac, but i prefer it to the competition, and Mobile Me keeps it in sync, so i keep using it.

Mine was forever freezing or crashing which is why I switched to PC. Both have their faults but I figured the majority have PCs so there is therefore a larger knowledge base. :thumb2

sounds like there was something wrong with yours. even on my somewhat abused imac, it's not a common occurrence, though it can seem like one as it always happens at the wrong time. ie. when i just want to use it :D
