iMac - killed my keyboard

So, my wireless keyboard was a bit grubby. Applied some Flash liquid cleaner on a damp cloth on Monday, now only the middle row of letters is operational. Tried drying it out gently, airing it, a wee blast with a hair-dryer, still nothing.

I assume that the technical term `fubar` now applies


I found an on-screen keyboard and it took me 10 mins to type this. Looks like 'dig deep' time

usually do mine with a damp cloth, and holding the keyboard upside down.

somehow, last year, i bypassed the upside down bit & fecked two keyboards one after another. one BT, one wired. expensive lapse of attention.

i use screen wipe cloths now. cleaner and safer. i hope.

you wouldn't get that poor resistance to moisture on a windows machine......

Yup mine went toast as well. Bought a new one from Apple.

A few years ago my wife put flash on an enamel bath.

Lifted the enamel off the bath.
Been nervous of it ever since.

Took the knackered keyboard to the Apple Store in Belfast, one of their 'Genius' geeks agreed with my technical assessment and gave me a new one, FOC, despite it being a self-inflicted injury. Can't say fairer than that, I was well impressed. Well done, Apple

I have managed to tip a glass of beer and a few years later a mug of tea over a MS Ergonomic keyboard . I dismantled the keyboard each time and cleaned the parts. Let dry for a day or so and reassemble.

It sometimes takes a week or two for the keyboard to fully dry and return to 100% functionality, but so far so good.

Of course beer and tea are a bit less aggressive than flash cleaning products.

I guess alcohol based cleaning wipes or a cloth with isopropyl alcohol would be the safest and easiest way to clean a keyboard.

However, PC type keyboards are so cheap these days that it is barely worth the effort, unless you can not buy a particular language keyboard layout locally.

i tried to take an apple ali keyboard apart. i don't believe it is possible to do in a non destructive manner.
