So the trip to France is booked,

49 days and counting

what is mandatory , and what is bullshit?

Mandatory ( i believe )

Passport ( 6 months validity past return date ) Why i have no f*kin idea

Ticket (obs)

Original v5

Insurance cert - (as it's a print at home so that will be fun)

Nice to have
Travel insurance
recovery / breakdown insurance


Food, tent and money are a given so dont need to be added ;)

anything ive missed ?

Passport, make sure it hasn’t exceeded 10yrs since date of issue ignore the expiry date.
I would say travel insurance and breakdown/recovery are mandatory.

It’s just like here is Europe….the police don’t really giving a flying fuck about all this stuff. I got back from a 7000 mile 8 week trip a week or so back and although I saw dozens of police at the side of the road they barely even registered my presence. Don’t worry.

I’ve never once carried a hi viz, never had a GB sticker.

I been to pretty much every country in Europe and never once had an issue with these things.

The police have stopped me few times at random, not a drama.

Don’t sweat all these BS rules.

Take money, v5, ins, passport and have a great time.

They probably give less than a flying fuck compared to here.
Just bring the extra viz stuff if you want, for safety.

No one ever gave a shit about headlight stickers (I point them down) and GB stickers. Ever. in 17 years of driving/riding up and down Europe.
If I ever get fined for that, I'd amount to 0.0001 gbp per mile in total :D

By the way, not advising to travel without docs, but I've been stopped twice, once at the border in Switzerland and once in Italy, without V5 (I often forget the originals home) and let go without any issues. :)

Whilst not mandatory, going without good Travel insurance is feckin’ stupid. See sticky. Going without breakdown insurance, is pretty dumb. But hey, it’s your wallet, not mine. You can though bet a pound to a penny that not one of the site’s self appointed hard men (“I never buy it me, cos it’s a feckin’ rip-off mate”) will be around to assist when you are pushing your bike home with a broken leg, from tripping over your panniers, which you must take off at night.

Just to clarify

I will have travel insurance & breakdown / recovery insurance

the purpose was more along the lines of what do i legally have to take / have with me :)

After breaking my neck in Oz some years ago on holiday, and having to be repatriated , i'm fully aware of the needs for travel insurance :)
 
are you on foot as you do not seem to have a motorcycle on your list?
 
People saying spare bulbs?? How would I take spare LEDs as that what all my lights are on my GS and are not changeable on the side of the road.......
 
Strangely enough, spares are available for bikes ALL over Europe. Including France. Take the minimum. Including the minimum cash. Card payments are even common in Germany these days.
