Hi
Ive got a deal on the table on a 2001 1150gs which all looks good
My only concern is that its an import and still has km speedo. The lights have been changed
It is with a large reputable multi franchise dealership
Any advice please?
Jamie

Is it UK registered ?
Does it have a current MOT ?
Does the speedo show MPH and KPH ?
If yes to the above then no problem.
But if it bothers you then ask the dealer to change it and make that part of the deal.
Good luck.

Both a family member and a friend bought imported 1150GS bikes from the same dealer a few years ago, as far as I can remember the dealer did change/convert the headlights (although on the 1150GS is this not as simple as turning the unit on it's adjusters?) They also did change the speedo/mileage gauge etc. I believe both bikes were originally registered in Germany.

The family member did a lot of miles and kept the bike till he upgraded to a new 1200GS, the friend got tempted by 3 cylinders after a year or so and opted for the dark (gunmetal silver) side and got a Triumph 675

Neither had any problems to do with the history of their 1150s

If I remember rightly all vehicles sold/registered in the UK have to have a speedo which reads in both MPH and KPH otherwise they are illegal and as such the dealer should not be knowingly selling it unless they are going to change it before it is sold.
If you are stopped by the police for speeding saying your speedo only reads in KPH won't help you.

Import

Jamie,
My 03 1150 came from Germany with 8000km(5k miles) on the clock in its first 3 years. I have done another 32000miles in under 2 1/2 years and it hasn't missed a beat. I realise that being an import may effect the price when I sell it but I can live with that.
Regards
Matt
