Importing a bike into France?

We have moved in and are settling and getting through the mountain of required paperwork.

For the 846a certificate, my wife found the "declation d'entrée en franchise de biens personnells en provenance de pays tiers a l'u.e." cerfa 10070*03 , @Mad Hatter not sure if you can remember but is this the correct form to fill in to get the 846A cert

The link is here https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/R42719

Thanks!
The way that I did it was to list my bikes on the CERFA Form 10070*03 alongside the household possessions we were taking to France. When I took the bikes into France on the ferry I showed form to the Douane customs guy at the passport check and he sent me to the Douane office where they stamped and signed the CERFA Form 10070*03 and then issued me with the Form 846a which they also stamped and signed. You need the 846a to be able to register the bike in France. If you didn't do this when you brought the bike into France I believe that you can take the bike to your local Douane office (probably at your nearest airport or port) and do it there. You may need to make an appointment though.

Thanks so much, this is great info and good to know I am in the correct direction.

Give me a shout if you need anything. Where abouts are you based?
Sorry for very slow reply. I am based in Lyon.

So I have got everything done and I have received my Certificat Provisoire d'Immatriculation.

Is the Numero d'immatriculation permanent or does it change once you get your carte grise?

I was sure if it was worth ordering a number plate yet given I am not really planning to ride much over the winter.

Also I am assuming that now is time to notify DVLA of permanent export?

Thanks

time to notify DVLA of permanent export?
My brother in law did not do this. When he died, he left me his F650, which I reimported from Spain.

I was concerned about NOVA and all sorts of hassle, but all I did was MOT it and submit the V5 in my name when I taxed it. Fortunately, I had the original registration docs and number plate. They pointed out that there were some twenty years of unpaid road tax due.

I pointed out that the new owner is not responsible for the previous owners’ tax debts and they can chase him for it.

You might wonder whether not advising DVLA might be advantageous. I suppose you could SORN it.

It had crossed my mind, however I think there is limited upside and I am sure there is a potential downside of getting fined. If I wanted to keep it on UK plates in france I could have done, albeit with a dubious insurance situation. I can always reimport it back to the UK without paying duties and I would need to SORN it every year.

Your situation is a bit unique!

That will be your permanent numéro d’immatriculation, it stays with the vehicle for its life now

Minor detail - the plate has to be fixed with rivets, it’s a legal requirement, easiest option is to get it made and fitted at Norauto or Feu Vert or somewhere similar, or a bike shop, they will fit it for you

Thanks, I just ordered one online and saw the rivets so I guessed it must be a thing. I ordered some in various colours to be sure.
