Does anyone know what the import tax on a $503 seat from the US would be?

I know that the final cost would be price + import tax (?) + 17.5%. Plus P&P:rolleyes:

I have searched the forums but any links lead me to HMC&E website, and I can't find motorbike bike seat listed on it.

I'm in the process of buying a seat from the states. Still undecided on styling etc but having looked at the advrider site it seems if the sender was to put
"repaired seat" on the box then you should avoid paying import tax. Thats what I'm hoping anyway.!!

They make it up. Usually about 12%.

So -

(Cost of goods + 12% + handling fee (£12.50) + postage) * 1.175 - VAT's charged on the total.

Gordo's got to keep the coffers filled somehow.

Cheers, I just gone ahead and placed an order for a low version Sargent seat. $503 + $208 :eek:for UPS to deliver to the UK. Even with Paypals, slightly worse than should be, exchange rate it stills works out at £354.94:) That is £240 less than I got quoted from a UK supplier:(

So, even if for simplicity I take VAT at 20%, which obviously it isn't, and add£70, that is £420 - still £175 less than UK prices.

I think the pair of seats from Nippy Norman comes in at £479, so a difference of £60 on your projected final price.

Ah, but i've ordered the one piece seat required for an '04 GSA. Maybe should've mentioned that.:augie

editWhich having just checked Nippys' website is showing at £434:blast:blast:blast

Feck know's were I got my £595 from then:nenau :blush

Based on your figures, I estimate final costs as this:

Seat Carriage handling fee excise VAT total
£257.95 £106.67 £12.50 £30.95 £71.41 £479.48

The handling fee will be charged by UPS's local agent in the UK, to whom you'll have to pay the VAT and duty. It varies but seems normally to be £12-£15.

I'd be interested to hear what it finally does work out to and whether it was worth doing.

Good luck:thumb2

Ahem ...

... I do hope HMC&R don't read this site, but I have recently received a heated Corbin Dual Canyon for my '05 GSA from the US via eBay. It came straight through without any import duty at all, which makes me feel the imposition of these tariff's is a little bit 'luck of the draw'. ;)
