importing to Italy: head light question..help!

Thanks for all the replies, so far so good, I think I should get my wife to write a report on how to get your bike into Italy.. for a country with a paper chain so big that rain forests cry every time you go to the post office! it wasnt too bad.

so far the paper work is with the motorizzazione civile, they now have my log book and I have to take them the UK reg plate on Tuesday morning, they should then issue the Italian one, then we go to the PRA (publico registro automobilistico) to apply for the new log book; so far they have not wanted to see the bike, maybe co's its 06 plate and not due an MOT? who knows.

will keep you posted on events next week, any one who needs help with this kind of stuff (or moving here etc) can drop me a PM and then we can go from there..

a basic step guide would be a help to start. Also might save time wasters contacting you rather than the serious people genuinely needing the info.

AH... thats a point, must get round to doing the subscribing thing.. Ok Basic cost go like this, and the folks you need to see..

So re-registration costs are like this.

So for all the paper work you need to go to the Motorizzazione Civile (very brief application form) they will give out the forms to make the payments (like bank payment slips) pay these at the post office.


Two payments of 25 Euro's + 9 Euros which is tax.
Then you may need to get the log book translated, we had to even though its a European document. (cost of this depends on who does the translation)the translated document has to be certified at a justice court (this is called traduzione giurata) they will stamp the papers and you then take them to the MC.
and that is it as far as paper work goes.


then once all this is in place, you need to wait until the paper work is approved (for me it was two days) then they will need your original log book and after a couple of days you take in the old UK reg plate and they should give you an Italian one, with that you go to the PRA and apply for your Italian log book, I will let you know how long that takes next week!
