Guys, what are the symptoms of my front fork seals going on my gs12? The reason I ask is that my dealer told me that they had both gone, after only 7000 miles, bit of a coincidence, and strange because I don't do any off-roading (yet) and I certainly can't detect anything in the way the bike feels at the front. I suspect the dealer may think they have gone because of the liberal coating of ACF on the forks, but when I suggested this, after a pause for thought the chap said "no, it was pink fork oil". I had not noticed any pink oil, and there isn't any at the moment. Now, I'm not qualified to argue with the experts, and I don't want to question their judgement, but I have to ride a good distance to get to the dealers to have it done, plus pay for a loan bike while the work is carried out. Sort of between a rock and a hard place really, any comments/thoughts/advice please.:nenau

1) Temporarily clean off the ACF:(
2) Go for a a long ride over challenging roads:D (at least 200 miles)
3) Examine forks for sign of pink fork oil (or white elephants)
4) a)Assuming no traces of oil re-apply ACF:thumb
4) b)If traces of pink fork oil are found bow to the incredibly observant and knowledgable dealer staff and send letter of gratitude to store manager commending the particular technician responsible and book bike in for warranty replacement of fork seals. If this is another known fault with 1200's and you are near the end of your warranty skip all previous steps and make booking anyway.
4) c)If traces of white elephants are found visit your local therapist.:thumb

A common fault with 1200, I think... I've had mine replaced twice each side in first 21 months since new. I never really noticed any adverse effects though, only realising that they were shot because of oil build-up on forks.

If the 1200 is like the 1150, the oil doesn't actually do anything other than lube the sliders as they pass through the bushes. So you wouldn't notice any difference in handling.
Only time it can be a problem is if it dribbles on your brakes

If you fancy replacing them yourself, it's quite easy (certainly on 1150). Do a "search".

Good luck.............

Thanks all for the info, just gonna go ahead and get them done, would love to be able to do it myself but
