:eek::eek::eek:strewth they fooking better had be:eek

i use the senhieser CX300 in ear jobbies, best £30sovs ive spent:thumb

Unless you want to listen in stereo just buy one and stick a foam jobbie in the other ear - much easier to use and less likelihood of breaking a wire

Considered them but heard too many tales of the small wires breaking down where the enter the buds, lot of money for a fragile bit of kit and I'm a bit rough handed with stuff :(

Hope you're patient - not received mine yet that were ordered at the NEC in November. They currently 'estimate' early February so take any delivery estimates with a pinch of salt:rob

friends of mine have them and they have been back for repair 3 times for the above problem:(

In ear monitors are fantastic, had a pair ma by Schianni of this Parish at the Welsh weekend coming up to 2 years ago and not a problem with them (they are the Green Leopard version which use air tubes instead of wires) and comfortable on the longest trips.

If you enjoy the odd toon while in the saddle your in for a treat :thumb

Kev, give Schianni a shout :augie

As with Andy-E's post, hope your patient!
I ordered (actually went to ultimate) prior to the NEC in November and
I STILL have not received them. 3 phone calls later (one by my Mrs where
the customer service was..lacking) and I've been promised next week.
Been very close to cancelling order as I got 2 sets and the autocom
connectors costing a fair old wedge.

Think they would benefit by updating customers from time to time with progress reports. Bit pissed off to be honest.

I would give them three weeks then start calling every week.

I'm quite sure Ewan and Charlie didn't wait this long.....

First and foremost an up front declaration:

I work as an agent for Ultimate Ear:

Delays:

There have been problems with getting work from November/December out to customers, in mitigation the NEC show came later this year leaving little time time (2 weeks) before Christmas then the Christmas closure was the best part of another 2 weeks. There have been problems with sickness and a quality issue with supplied cables holding back monitor production.

The company are pulling out all the stops to clear the backlog but there's only so many hours staff can be expected to work overtime as they have lives to live. I take on board the observation that customers could be better informed with delays. 28 days is the target turnaround time and in normal circumstances we meet this target.

Fragility:

Electrical monitors are a piece of kit that needs looking after if they are to last and when they are looked after they are an excellent piece of kit that in terms of sound have no equal. The product has just gone through another development cycle with new cables which is part armoured for those who wish to use them externally.

Alternatives:

For the best part of a year Ultimate have offered an 'airtube' monitor which I have used throughout this period with great success. No the sound quality isn't as good as the electrical version, detail and sound level is lost through the tube where the sound is delivered acoustically. But they are perfectly good for on-bike use especially when you might interface through an intercom system.

Routing of the 'airtube' part is critical to ensure the cable isn't exposed as vibration will carry through into the ear but it doesn't take long to get used to.

They also come in at an attractive price of £125 posted.

They went twice on mine that way, in under a year. The second time, they added a soft plastic length of tube to act as a strain relief. Been fine for the last four months...

I use these....

At £25 not bad. As good as ear plugs in making the sound quiet and a good (if a little too basy) sound quality.

Thanks for the input guys,im hoping that i dont have to many probs, they certainly are very comfy and are a fantastic fit in your ear.Judge thanks for the info, the guys at the show told me 28 days and that they had had some problems re delivery.Il just keep my fingers crossed that the quality is reflected in the price and they prove a good buy....:Motomartin

Here Is a product which although is considerably more expensive is also considerably better sounding.

I have NOTHING to do with either of these companies I'm just someone who is paid to care how things sound.

I use them at work and wouldn't use anyone else's.

(however having said that I don't pay for them:augie:D)

Judge I am not trying to shoot down what I believe is an excellent product and good value for money, but i thought it only fair people do know there are alternatives.

However having said all of that sound is as subjective as art and a "great sound" is an opinion the listener has, and not a solid fact or formula.

Cheers Tom

No problem at all Tom I'm sure they are worth every penny of the $1150 US price tag and if they work for you fair play, even better that someone else paid for them :D

That said a hard acrylic shell like that in an ear under a helmet is going to be a real struggle for most people.

Its a buyers market and any buyer should do their research before making a purchase, in most cases over the years I have been involved, Ultimate have worked hard at improving their products and not rested on any laurels.

We've had some problems which we are seeking to overcome and we'll strive to continue to overcome them as time goes on, the very existence of the business relies on customer satisfaction.

I've used them for a few years now.

They are fragile and so I had a second pair made from the original molds so I still have one pair whilst the others are being repaired. The usual proble is removing my helmet without remembering to unplug first:blast

The last set I had repaired ~£40 arrived back last week with a far stronger looking set of cables. All pretty much as Judge has said above.

Noise reduction is far better than foam disposables for me and still allows the noise of car tyres to be transmitted so I can hear a car moving into my blind spot for example.

The sound quality of the speakers is amazing. So good in fact that I take them on holiday to listen to my MP3 in the aircraft.

No connection except as a happy customer

Pros and Cons.....

I have a set of Ultimate Ear 'monitors' and have had mixed results (sorry Judge). The sound quality with Autocom/Mp3/Phone/Satnav is so much better than in-helmet speakers and earplugs and the noise reduction is great BUT......

I bought them at the Beaulieu bike show. They lasted a year before the soft rubber sheathing of the wires split longitudinally where they enter the monitors. I had to send them back and reluctantly pay £50 for the repair. They returned with a hard Vinyl wire but no strain relief (it was requested by me). Within 11 months, the newer hard Vinyl outer wiring sheath had split radially this time, again where the wire enters the monitors.

At the recent NEC show I waited patiently at the Ultimate Ear stand until all customers were served, then discretely complained to the lady serving about my recurring problem. I handed the faulty items over, and had to wait until early January for my sea freight to arrive from abroad before I could get my impressions sent back for the repairs to begin, plus another fee (this time £30).

I haven't abused the product but they do need to be strong enough to resist fraying/splitting with repeated donning and removing of the crash helmet. Ironically my mate had monitors made by a rival company (Headset Services) at the same time for similar money, and his are still perfect and they get used almost daily.:nenau

My monitors have now cost me over £230 with the hassle and cost of repairs included and although the sound quality really is excellent, the cable needs strain relief if it is to last. I hope they fit some this time as it is just common sense and I suspect the 'quality control' Judge mentions may be part of my previous problem(s) along with some minor design tweaks needed to the cabling/monitor interface to make it stronger.

I hope to get them back soon, and be a happy customer once more (touch wood).

Have found much the same issues as mentioned here with cable damage. The cost of the m does lead you to be carefull but the cable enetering the jack plug on mine failed resulting in only having one ear getting music, most annoying. Fortunately I found a local lad that put on a new plug for £10 but again I am a bit wary of using them due to fear of further failure which defeats the point of having them really..

I ordered them at the NEC (Dec 1st) and was told they expected delivery by mid Jan because of the Christmas holidays.

Mid Jan came and went, so i called and was told that there will be a delay and delivery would now be end of Jan.

End of Jan came and went,so i called again and was told that there will be a further delay and delivery would now be mid Feb.

All very annoying when you consider my Card was deducted the same day as the order was made, i don't think it would be as bad if they took the money on despatch.

I would say that most people are not very happy with what they have purchased. You are all entitled to cancel your order and get a refund, as the contract you had with the company has been breached because of the delivery date
