HI Guys
I`ve been the owner of my 1150gs A for just over a year done about 12000 miles fantastic. However the seat hight is a bit of a challange I`ve bought a lower seat which helps but unless i have a late growth spert I may have to buy something a little lower as i would like to do more adventurous trips involving more off-road. The question is is the anything i can do?

Welcome :thumb2

Thought about getting a lower shock?

The search tool is your friend:beerjug:

good idea guys I cant think why I did`nt think . Lower shocks has anyone had any success and how much lower can you go.

You can put standard 1150 shocks on the gsa which will drop it by about 20mm???
You could also try a different seat if you want to keep the extra suspension travel. I've got a sargent seat on my 1150GSA and it is quite a bit lower than the original. I notice you are in Darlo so not far from me. You're more than welcome to come and have a sit on my bike to see what you think.
Drop me a PM with if you're interested:thumb2

BMW off road skills course. Not only will you have a damn good time, they'll also teach you some tricks that mean you don't need to be able to flat-foot the bike.

Lowering

I think Ohlins shocks can go down 25mm which will make a big difference, lower seats are usually uncomfortable the BMW version just has a lump of foam missing and you just sit in a big groove 'orrible.

Try fitting the longer paralever torque arm from the R1150R, it will lower your rear suspenders by about 3/4 of an inch. This way you still get the full suspension travel for off roading.

You can get one second hand from Motorworks.

Start by having your seat lowered... couple that with bar risers/setbacks which will bring the bars closer to you - so you will be sitting in a slightly more upright position and so your feet should be in a better position to get to the floor.

Easy enough to have your lower seat further reduced with no loss of comfort. cheap to do too.. around £100 +/-

start with simple fixes before exploring the more expensive methods like changing the suspension.

I fitted the following on my GSA which improved the situation

I am 5@ 11"

The GSA Lower seat option
Standard Ohlins 1150GS Shock - front and rear (not sure if the standard OEM GS Shocks would do the same)
Standard 1150GS Centre Stand - the change of centre stand is useful, as, if you change the shocks, you may have problems, "getting it up" with the GSA Centre Stand fitted

I think that is all you can really do

Good Luck

Bill

Lowering

As I said before std ohlins camn be lowered about 25mm so this would appear to be the (expensive) answer.

Many thanks for all your ideas ohlins shocks sound the best option I`ve picked up a full set unused and cheep
Cheers guys

Ohlins

Well done on the shocks, take them to an Ohlins service agent (someone will help you out with the address) and see what they advise, good luck this is the way to go no question as your bike must suit YOU.
