does anyone know of a cheap pannier rack for my f650gs? not looking for any panniers to go with them, as I have these http://www.silvermans.co.uk/Product...NNIERS/ItemId/6890/CurrentPage/0/Default.aspx already and need to adapt them to this bike.
TT do a rack for 230£ but that's way more than i want to spend on some metal tubing.
If not a rack, does anyone have any other ideas as how i could possible adapt my luggage?
thanks :thumb2

I'm with you on the expense of those racks however from a business point of view i appreciate the limited runs will make them expensive.

If you are looking to fab something yourself how about using the rear rack mounting points to screw in two 'u' shaped bars wide enough to clear the exhaust? Or a thick piece of alu sheet formed over the rear of the bike

Alternatively one of these -

I, like you, am a soft luggage fan and think the price of panniers/racks are a bit steep. Got a used one of these on eBay, nikwax'd it and after a 3k mile european trip through every type of weather couldn't be happier.

Best,

Are they actual panniers of a pair of '58 pattern large packs buckled together ? They look VERY soft for holding kit if they are less than full. Have you actually used them ? Maybe rivetting a plastic sheet to the inside of the where they sit agains a rack might be a good idea ?

When I was doing Basic and was forced to use that piece of cr@p, I swore I'd never touch one again. 25 years on, I haven't ! :D

Personally, I think the expense of the Wolfman and SW Motech rack was worth every penny. Still a lot less than any hard luggage solutions too.

yeah i've used these before, but only on my bandit which was a few years back.
they may not be as sturdy as the more expensive kind but they look cool and do what I need them to.
And it really does look like it;s going to be a diy jobbie :tears
