Hi all, 👋 just wondering if anyone on here has done this trip or similar, and tips and must do's/don'ts for the trip?
Me and 4 mates are booked on in June and the 5 of us are outside our comfort zones lol so just looking for advice which will help us 😀
Cheers
Mike

dont forget the expensive visa
We lost a day of our life filling out the bloody visa form especially tying to convert photos to pdf and then several attempts to get the compressed size correct 🤯 followed by 3or 4 attempts to pay over about 12 hrs🤯. Booking a bike was totally stress free, all done over whatsapp and currently on day 5 of travelling(slowly) around southern Kerala on a Himalayan 410.

Same here, have got 2 INDIA visa's in my passport (both expired) and both entailed a day trip to London to sort it out. And it takes a whole page in the passport.

I was under the impression you can get a 30day tourist e-visa complete it online before we go? Is this not the case? Cheers

Yes you can - but it’s still all a palaver to do on the India gov website.
You will look at the website and your first thought will be - surely this is some sort of shit third party scam site ?
🤣

Please check for yourself Mike, but I don't believe the India E-visa applies to UK residents. I think we are being punished for our past colonial
misdemeanours, hence the £127 charge for the visa and for me the last visit was for 2 days only:mad:

Cheers Gadget, I will check it out in good time, 👍

I thought this was all sorted at end of 2023

International driving licence from the post office. Just to have the Sikh post master tell you how he won’t drive in India because it’s too dangerous.

We are recently back from 2 weeks in Northern India.

UK citizens do need a visa, you can apply upon arrival, the queues though are horrendous and take hours.

We did ours online and yes, India is famed for red tape and it was a right PITA, Jan’s was paid for and granted overnight, mine refused my payment several times with different cards, but they finally accepted it.

Don’t believe what you read on the application, you do need the actual visa document (and NOT the “application approved” document ) printed off which has your photo along with a QR code.

Enjoy, it's an amazing country.

Did a Himalayas trip with Ride Expeditions in 2019.
I don’t know about the company you’re using but RE were superb, had support vehicle with a bike and carried all your gear, other than what you wanted for the day.
If it’s the same for you a cheap tail pack or tank bag for any bits you may need, water , visor cleaner waterproofs etc is handy.
Did my visa online and yes I think it was a bit of a ball ache. International driving licence is easy from post office.

Most important thing I’d say about the whole experience is it was the best thing I’ve ever done, the cost and any hassle just disappears once you’re out there and on the road.
Have a great trip.

Don't forget your refresher vaccines & tetanus booster ahead of time.

I had rabies jabs before I moved there - they were £500 per head then, lord knows what they cost now

As per my earlier post we have recently got an evisa for our trip which does apply for UK residents, in India at the moment, did it online, took bloody ages, need parents details etc, thought we were emigrating not coming out for 3 weeks!! Paying is a pain as well, it’s very clunky to say the least, cost was around 30USD, plenty of links to other sites but DO it on the official site, you have to convert photos to pdf files and compress them to a certain size for the upload. Have fun!!
P.S. Haven’t needed Imodium but wet wipes are great just to refresh, we are in Kerala on a 410Himalayan.

You need a Paypoint shop now - not a Post Office.

This is a pain as well now as the places that issue them are few and far between, Exeter for example has one place, it’s a Costcutter shop on a housing estate on the outskirts of the City, the next nearest place is one shop in Torquay!!
