Hi all,
2020 GS - does anyone think the indicators cancel too soon.
I have done some IAM training and the observer is always telling me i am not indicating .. i am but the blumin things auto cancel so soon you have to keep applying them especially when going around a large roundabout for example.
Frustrating..

My 2014 cancels after a perfect distance . Not time related …. I think

It's a simple system that BMW have miscued slightly. Essentially it needs a gyroscope or lean sensor to understand when a turn has been completed.

Others have shared your frustration, both with this & a few other aspects too ............. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baiUcmBbWEg&t=60s

Allegedly your dealer can switch out this function - anyone tried?

Especially when indicating to turn off a major road onto a minor ones they cancel far too soon, with my 2021 GSA I spoke to the dealer at the first service who said the time/distance cancellation time cannot be altered or turned off .

My 2018 GSA did not have self cancelling indicators and I never needed the bloody things , they are a PITA

A likely response, but I wonder if that is true though, or just a reflection of the crazy amount of time it takes to run custom software updates.

IIRC its about 300 yards/metres & 10 seconds when they cancel off.

I'm sure there is a way (for the dealer - or maybe a GS-911) to switch them off?

I've had autocancelling turned off on my 1250 by the dealer. Coincidentally I'm an IAM observer, and the problem I was having is that they were making it harder for the associate to follow my signals, as they'd sometimes autocancel too early.

Hi tw99,
Did you just ask the dealer and it got booked in or was it you hassling the dealer until they did it ?

If you press indicator button for longer they stay on longer. Page 78 in riders manual. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem, indicators canceling too soon, especially on high speeds. They would cancel before I started to turn to exit ramp. So, I investigated and found out that there are three options for time/distance. Bikes come out of the factory with the shortest time/distance. I went to my dealer and asked them to change to middle option. They did, free of charge. Now my indicators cancel only if I forget to cancel them. That means, after some time, so I have to remember to cancel them if I don't want to drive for a while with them on. I'm happy with "middle" option.

Hold the switch to indicate for a couple of seconds and it stays on longer..

Had the bike 2 years an didnt know that !
Will give it a go later in the week.
Thank you all for the replies - appreciated

Yes a dealer can remove the "auto cancel" feature. We had our job bikes done & I have had both my 2010 & 2015 bikes feature removed. :-)

You know there’s a short 3 blink and a longer self cancellation I assume.

Personally I have no issue with the indicators bar the stupid button rather than the old left grip right grip method which was much less fiddly.
