My indicators self cancel after 15 flashes. Do everybodies do that ? And does anyone know if it is possible to re-program them to stay on longer.

For that matter, has anyone found a way of installing a Jap flasher switch - the one bit of the GS that I dont like is the indicators.

i think they all do this, no mention of it in the handbook!

Yes they do self cancel - see another thread about this - but you'll get used to the non-Jap indicators pretty quickly.

I have found the self cancel is, overall, good if you don't fight them, someone has designed them to work like this...you can imagine the design team chat....

somewhere in Bavaria...

"do ve vant zer indicators to cancel or not?"
"vell, ya i zink as it is better than leaving them on if zer dumbkoff rider forgets"
"wunderba! but how long should ve program zer timink?"
"anozer good question professor Helmut!"
"5 flashers"
"nein! Too little time"
"20 flashes"
"oh Ingrid you might have vell left zem on"
"ya I have it....about 10 seconds....but only if you are travelling more zan a few kilometers per hour...."
"ya, ya, ya"
"and Helmut, if you are passing zer big Audi's on zer autobahn zen 10 secondds is about right...and you don't even haf to cancel them...."
"ya, good vun team...lets go for a schnaps break...."
"ya Ingrid - mines a double"

...and so on

I think it is 250 meters or something before they cancel. However long it is, it's just a tad too short if you, like me, hit your left indicator at the 300m to go board when coming off a motorway.

Otherwise, a very useful addition :D

You can always hit the button at 300 and 200 I suppose Tobers. I'll try it next time I'm out.

Yes, they self cancel, don't have a very big problem with that...

... but those mickey-mouse-control-alt-delete-type-kung-fu-grip-switches.... aaarrrrrrrrrrgh!!!

If you can find some way to install proper switches on them, please let the world know.

See this thread:

15 flashes on mine to cancel as well.

Not having had a beemer before I was not looking forward to the switch gear for the indicators but have within 700 miles got well and truly used to it, it just feels natural now. Add in the self cancel and use it as part of the system, works a treat.

My problem came with the cancel switch being on the same bar as the throttle. FI makes it a bit of an on/off ride anyway and me tarting about trying to cancel the signal and maintaining throttle control got to be a bit silly.

Now I just leave em flashing until I can switch them off at a point when relaxing grip on the throttle is not going to cause a clash of lids or they self cancel, simple.

Im well happy. Few niggles but the best bike Ive ever owned.:)

Whats really sad is when you know your daily commute so well that you hit the indicator at the right time so that you NEVER have to hit the cancel switch !!

On my way to work this morning (on my girlfriend's kawasaki) I kept pressing the starter motor to cancel the indicators ... grrr! or should i say "whirrr!"
