Ok I am fairly handy with bikes but as work do cover cost night courses and distant learning courses I am looking maybe getting a motorcycle mechanics course done.

Anyone know a good course or one around kildare laois carlow area?

Also I would be looking for a long term course not a course just to show you how to service a bike and that’s it.

john

i might be wrong but it came up as one of the points in the recent bike protest that there is no actual training for bike mechanics in this country. hence we have no mot for bikes.

ya i want sure if there was a recognised course or just night coruses for info for DIY people

It wasn't u that soldered them ignition switch cables on that bike i bought off ya was it? I ended up replacing it last week, the key works as it should now i.e. off when off and on when on and no having to lock the handlebars to get the key out!! flying other than that tho!! :beerjug:

My eldest lad did a course in St John's in Cork but it was pretty crap - I think it was City and Guilds. Not really for those who already tinker themselves really, and from what you did to the Dakar I imagine you're not a beginner! Tis always handy to learn something though :thumb2

I may be wrong but I thought Noel Quinn taught this course, I'd have thought Noel would be very good at teaching...... he must be working on bikes twenty odd years or more.

Either way it's a bit far for John to travel. :thumb2

City and guilds course are VERY VERY basic.

You need a BTEC ONC or similar - and you'll get about 5 C&G's thrown in as well.

maybe best ring bolton street see what they are offering. ah more wanted something extra for CV as well.

might even go down line doing aircrfat insrumentation in carlow

Wasn't meaning the teaching was crap just the course was very basic, though was warned that may be the case in fairness. My lad did get to go to Germany for a couple weeks work experience all expenses paid though, so not all bad :thumb2

Don't go into aircraft instrumentation.

With the closing of FLS aerospace( what used to be Aer Lingus), there are hundreds of engineers out of work. Dublin Aerospace are paying engineers with 30 years experience €10 an hour net. Bloody disgraceful. You would be much better off working for Aldi or Lidl.
