info please on charging the gs

My 2007 model GSA went through two batteries in the first year, that's with being used at least four days a week with around 300 miles all in. BMW emergency came out and said they were deeply discharged and needed replaced. Still have no idea why, the only thing hooked up was the sat nav - no heated gear, etc, and the bike was used regularly.

After that, I disabled the alarm and added an optimate lead and connected up after every ride.

So whilst everyone may not have had issues, some, at least, have had. With my new bike, I'm also being careful, especially as it's not going to be used regularly and basically bought for trips away.

I use an M-TEK charger with the connecting lead attached direct to the battery.

The negative attaches direct to the battery terminal and the positive is connected to the extension fitted to the bike.

POL 382 Just looking at your routing of the Neg lead where it appears to be running over the sharp edge of the Pos spade terminal. I would reroute or put some more insulation on it. Vibration could possibly wear it through.

The GS is a vehicle with a battery. The basics apply. Just go direct to the battery. Simple. End of story.

The BMW wiring for SatNav is to Canbus power, which is automatically shut off a short time after the ignition is killed. So leaving SatNav permanently in the cradle is not an issue.
