Took delivery today of a brand new unopened Inforad bike unit.

Thought I would try it in the car first so connected up to the cig lighter - 1 hr. later still not locked onto satelites and green LED still flashing.
Instructions say I should be able to use it out of the box - am I missing doing something first?

Thanks guys

Sherpa ;)

check that the receiver/ariel thing has a clear view of the sky
Other than that should work straight from the box

Not sure about inforad but I have Tom Tom and found that in certain cars (my daughters Mini for example) there is a coating on the windscreen that stops it getting a satellite fix. It usually picks something up in my car after only a few minutes even if it's not been used for some time. Assuming it has enough charge why not try putting it in the window at home and see if it gets a lock on from there.

thanks

Definately not working out of the box - I'll contact Inforad next week

Tried out in the open on a 12v battery with no interference so I reckon its duff

thanks again for the replies

ta again

Thanks Dutch
My only slight concern is that the unit may be stolen (no reason to suspect this though) as it says in the booklet that Inforad can render a unit disabled if stolen but I would imagine that's once its been connected to the internet software and registered - this hasn't yet.
It is definately new and looks as such - even the wires haven't been connected to anything (no crushing of the soldered end)

How long does it take to actually locate the sats. on first power up - the instructions say UPTO 15 mins.

Guess I should have bought from you eh?

All the ones we have fitted acquire satellites & operate correctly well within the 15 minutes stated......

It's more than likely that either the unit is faulty or as Mitch says, the software is not of the latest version which can be remedied by downloading the latest updates.

All the Inforad's we sell are vacuum packed in plastic (by Inforad) so it's immediately obvious if the packaging has been opened......

Cheers

Almost certainly a unit fault.........we've sold about 20 or so with zero reported issues........

Twenty Accident blackspot detectors? :thumb

It's good to see so many of us are interested in "Safety" :D

(Still haven't found a space for it on my BoxerCup)

follow up

Still not convinced about this thing!

I've temporarily fitted it to the GS and it seems to find the sats. OK when stationary but if it then loses them whilst out (bridge, tunnel or garage forecourt) it won't find them again without me stopping for 5 mins. at the side of the road.

The Garmin Quest is mounted on the same place as the Inforad ariel on the handlebars and that starts up again within seconds of leaving the garage forecourt. Yesterday I filled up in Scarborough but by York the Inforad was still trying to find the sats again!

Anybody else any issues with theirs?

Sherpa ;)
