insert link

It should just work. DId you highlight the source text you wanted the link to represent? For instance, if you click HERE you'll see a photo of sad Scottish football players. I highlighted the word 'HERE' then clicked the link button, pasted the link into the popup window which appeared and voila.

As Franco said HIGHLIGHT the text where you want the link to go, then click the linky button, insert the url (the http:// will automatically be removed), click ok then the link will be attached to the bit you have highlighted :thumby:

I tried that had no problems' with the other computers I used all automatic , just like you say, only difference is this is windows 8 new pc with Norton 360 gold edition protection.

I highlight the text then click the insert text but nothing happens :nenau

could it be java, or some thing not installed or the Norton preventing it ? :nenau

Sorry Dean, thats about the limit of my knowledge i'm afraid.

I have a MAC so dont use windows.....

Someone with far more knowledge than me will be along soon :thumby:

Does the same problem exist in all browsers? Tried Firefox or Chrome to see if the issue persists?

I have always used the standard installed browser..

Is there an advantage to fire fox or chrome ?

I just googled what is my browser and apparently its as follows (looks like I need to up date flash and instal Java)

maybe this is the problem, does a pc need Java ?

Your Web browser Is:

Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 64-bit Edition

Is your Web browser up to date?

Your web browser is up to date.

Your Browser Capabilities:

Is JavaScript enabled?

Yes

Are Cookies enabled?

Yes

Is Flash installed?

Flash 11.6 is installed

Update to the latest version

Out of date

Is Java installed?

Java is not detected

According to THIS Internet Explorer 10 is supposed to be add-on free, but says you need java on the IE desktop?
I always run Firefox as personal preference, as I'm not a fan of Microsoft products due to their security vulnerabilities.
Worth a pop, you can always delete it if you don't like it.

Rob

You have solved the riddle. :D :D

I have installed just Java for now....... This

it works in Desktop but does not lend it's self to all of windows 8

as you mentioned Java only works on windows 8 on the desk top.
I had ukgser's as a fast link on the start page which is the tiled windows 8 apps page. But no insert link :(

The tiled apps that work on the touch screen as surely they was designed in this touch screen, pc, pad, smartphone world (by the by, but my pc is not touch screen but mouse activated drag and click)

So as Java state it loads to the desk top screen (not start apps page, screen)

so I installed a short cut to the desk top to ukgser.com :thumby:
and this enables me to use the "Insert Link" and this post is written in that way.

I just asked my daughter (mini swmbo) if she new much about firefox and chrome. apparently her old place of work uses firefox, a fair size mortgage lender, which would tie in with your security vulnerability concerns, it being strong in that field. And she mentioned whilst back packing for 7 months using smart phones without the sims in chrome was the only thing that picked up everything they wanted.

so I suppose firefox or chrome are the ones to try to see if works from the windows 8 apps page.

Thanks Rob I would never of thought it was a browser issue :beerjug:

I assumed all browsers was pretty much equal :nenau

technology

Nothing lends itself to Windows 8 as it is an abomination of all things you wouldn't want in an operating system. I hope it kills the bastards off once and for all.

Let's create a touchscreen interface and make it default that will ship with 90% of hardware with no touchscreen capabilities. Oh well done you

I'm still getting used to windows 8,

I was happy with 7 and vista and 98,

I think its all in there and more just can't find it yet or know my way around it, still patting my tummy and rubbing my head :blast :nenau

It's like SWMBO has gone in to MY garage :blast and tidied it up, yeah it would look nice on the eye but where anything would be :nenau

:rob Windows 8 was invented by woman, it's too Tidy :D
