I'll bet that yours looks as muddy and full of crap like mine:

Contacts are rusty and have lost their springiness, resulting on lampr bulb failure warnings
You really would expect this component to be sealed wouldn't you ?

The newer LED variety is sealed. It is a relatively big job to replace on a GSA because the pannier brackets need removal together with the rear seat support. A new wiring loom is also required. The canbus also needs reprogramming for the new light.

I have no idea but could guess...perhaps the newer LED version draws a different current?

Either way, my bike wasn't ready for collection, because the technician, who knows how to do the canbus thing, is away and needs to create a part order, download something to a memory stick etc etc.
So my new rear LED isn,t working...yet

Oh, I see.

I thought the reference to the LED version was it sealed box construction and nothing more. I read the remainder of the paragraph as referring to the replacement of the damaged / rooten unit with a like-for-like conventional bulb basis, the loom having been damaged by the rust etc. and the canbus having to be 'trained' to 'see' a replacement bulb.

The LED is 5v as well..which is worth telling the canbus. It likes to know these things. I recently did this conversion. £140ish for the light and small looooom and a change of connector.

Perhaps, but if I understand correctly, the Nippy Normans LED board plugs into the old bulb socket .
If that really is the case, it is no use for me because the old bulb contacts are rusted and knackered.
Also, I like the look of the latest BMW rear light

Much cheaper solution

1. Disconnect springs from the wiring loom and break them off (make a note of which connector on the bulb goes to which wire in the loom)
2. Solder 2 small cables (5cm is enough) to the bottom of the bulb with male ( I think) connectors on the other end (repeat on 3 bulbs just in case)
3. Feed wiring past broken off springs and connect to the wiring loom (just check you have it the correct way round) and screw the bulb back into the holder
4. Keep the 2 spare bulbs as you will need it if the bulb breaks

The only issue is you have to remove the tailight to change bulbs although you could lengthen the wiring harness.

Does not look as nice as the LED light but it gets past a very poor design.
